It all started on our annual man camping trip. Me and a few buddies leave the wives at home and go into the deep woods to camp. We then drink beer, sit around the fire and eat meat. Mostly just a couple days where we can throw off the constraints of the civilized world and be barbarians. Real manly. My brother-in-law loves to challenge people to things, everything has to be a competition. So there was a hatchet laying there and a stump at the edge of the camp site and one thing led to another and he started challenging people to hatchet throwing. Well now he's saying next year he's going to have a throwing axe and beat us all. I can't let that happen.

I know he ordered a Condor throwing axe but I have felt one of those in person and didn't like it. I was looking at the Cold Steel Trench Hawk but I don't know. I have had bad luck with CS knoves, maybe their axes are better? Anyways I'm looking for suggestions as this is something I have little experience with. I have kind of always wanted a blacksmith forged custom hawk bur I'd like to keep it under $100 so that really isn't an option. Suggestions please.

i would go with the shawnee throwing tomahawk from H&B forge (http://www.hbforge.com/products/tomahawks.php). i have used this one as well as the lady's hawk when i was throwing competitivly. did good with the smaller one, but found the shawnee to balance better and throw more easily. H&B quality really is top notch and i would recomend them all day long (as long as you like the rustic look).

Well I ended up finding a NIB 2 Hawks Longhunter on the BF trader. Got it at the top end of my budget. Rifht at $100. It's pretty much the hawk I always wanted. Should be a good thrower and still a useful camp tool. I may still pick up a less expensive dedicated thrower and I'm still looking at the HB Medium camp and the Crazy Crow Personal French.

Does it have the poll hammer head? The poll head hawk makes for a good camp tool, driving tent stakes &c.

Cold Steel hawks are really good for the money. I favor the trail hawk. Do not get the Rifleman's hawk for throwing. It is heavy and the handle to short for the weight.
