So my ffl dealer finally has my gun ready, b
Enforce I can take possession, I must first go to the clerk's office with proof of purchase, and the serial number given to me by phone by the ffl.

Off I go to do the paper work at the clerk's office. Well, the main pistol clerk put my serial number down as G30SF which most of you can tell is the model, NOT the serial number. Before I could correct her, she was called off to translate for some crying woman. Now in comes her supervisor, confident that she can finish the form. She too puts in G30SF I correct her in time, and give her the right number. 3 letters, 3 numbers, she says it is too short to be a serial number. I have to call my ffl dealer to confirm the number. She won't believe it.

Finally she enters it in the system and it is accepted, but now my permit/license card is reprinted with the model and serial number, I have to come back in 2 weeks to pick it up because it has to be signed by the judge again. My original card had the info hand written so I can now pick up my gun with my green coupon.

If I want another gun, I pay $5 get permission from the judge, and the process starts all over again.

Why is it that pistol clerks don't know the first thing about pistols. She even asked if my glock 30 was a revolver.

I may be too much of a smart aleck to stay on the high road if a public official asked me that last question. haha

You've never seen the Glock 30 shot revolver?

I want one.

My brother lives in NY. I wouldn't live there if I were forced to.

I never have lived in NY so I can't imagine what you are going through, but being I have lived in PA and now in NC, with more freedom than you have with guns, I couldn't put up with that BS.

Sorry for your troubles.

Can't be any worse than Illinois.

We have had two U.S. District court judges, one appointed by "Slick Willy", the other by "Dumbo", have ruled in cases before them with virtually the same decision. They state that the 2A "does not extend beyond the walls of out homes".

By that perverted logic, Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Assembly, of Religion (all 1A), doesn't extend beyond the walls of out homes either.

So who's going to tell all those churches, sporting events, bingo parlors, etc., that they "can't assemble" anymore and have to shut down?

Gets weirder all the time.

You have my sympathy, I honestly cannot fathom why any level headed man or woman would ever choose to live in such a terrible place.

At any rate, upstate NY is much more American, perhaps you ought consider moving northward?

I never really chose this, I was born and raised here. My dad came here from Cuba in 1939 and settled in NYC back then it was different, he even had a ccw in NYC. My mom came here from puerto Rico in 1961 again, very different. Now we have a business here, my beloved dad was buried here last June, and well, it's home as much as I hate the government of this state, I do love the state itself.

I also would love to vote in some change, maybe even run for local office here one day. I live in rockland county, which has become more and more like NYC aver the 15 years I've lived here, a real shame.

I been reading the issues with handgun permits at the nyfirearms site for awhile. Its amazing how requirements are different from county to county as well as one county will be full carry, the next one is 'could be' full carry and the next is restricted. Looks like Dutchess and Sullivan Counties are full carry counties and Orange and Putnam Counties are 'could be' full carry.

"Why is it that pistol clerks don't know the first thing about pistols."

Because the manager didn't teach them. It's not the clerk's fault that they weren't properly trained. If the manager doesn't know, then the fault belongs to their manager. Right on up the line.

I dealt with a similar situation yesterday at work and I'm not the manager and training isn't one of my duties, but a clerical worker was stressing out because what she'd been told to do was poorly thought out, wrong, and near useless. We'll see if anybody in management notices. My coworkers won't say anything because it streamlines things and helps us do our job (which involves direct public contact.)

After 38 years in state government I'm short on patience when it comes to inefficiency.

A lot depends on which county you're in. In mine, the LGS calls the permit clerk with the model and serial. You still have to go to the office, but when you get there, everything is ready, you pay the fee, talk for a few minutes because she's a great lady, and go pick up your new gun. I know it's still two trips, but it's no big deal. And the shop is only about 10 minutes away.

Blame your county, not the state. Many counties will do amendments over the counter, with no waiting for a judge, etc.
