AR Ammo

Wolf? Really? Not hating or bashing but I was under the impression that the Russian steal stuff didn't function well in ARs. Is that false? Cause if it is, I would love that.

Please elaborate. Thanks.

Wolf is fine. That's about as much as there is to elaborate on.

If you decide to shoot Wolf just clean the chamber afterwards before shooting brass cased ammo again and you'll be fine.
Steel case ammo doesn't expand in the chamber like brass does so it can get more carbon blowing by the case. Then you switch to brass with a carbon fouled chamber, brass will expand, and stick itself to the chamber.

I've heard the same thing about cleaning the chamber after shooting steel and before shooting brass, but i just don't get it. Whether shooting steel or brass, the chamber is going to get dirty. If you follow this logic, it implies that shooting brass will eventually lead to the chamber getting so dirty that the rifle will stop running. My rifle has 3 or 4K rounds through it since its last cleaning, having run a mix of steel, brass and handloads and it hasn't missed a beat; although I do lube it every 500 rounds or so whether it needs it or not.

Although my total round count is only around 2k, I've also never run into any issues with a mixture of steel and brass.

For everyday shooting out of my DD, I like either 55gr AE from WalMart @ $5.89 per box and I order PMC XTAC 62 gr for @ $289/case plus $14 for shipping.

Well this is another one of those valuable threads. I was going with the "commie ammo for commie guns" route. I am gonna get 100 rounds of plain jane 55gr Wolf and see how it goes. Save my M855 for "rough going".

Do keep in mind that all steel cased ammo is not created equally either. It's unfortunate that most lump them all into the same category. If one brand doesn't work for you, try another. Like I said, I've had good luck with Silver and Brown Bear.

I have a S&W 15 Sport with the 1 - 8 twist 5R rifling. I've shot Federal XM193 55grn, BVAC new and re-manufactured ammo 55grn and 62grn, PMC 55grn and 62grn and S&B 55grn ammo. My gun likes the 62grn loads the best, especially the PMC. But the difference is not that great. It shoots the best with some hand loads I did 15 years ago, 26grn Varget with a 60 grn Hornady HP. I shot 30 rds into a 1" square at 25 yrd (indoor range) unsupported. At 64 that's great shooting for me.

The BVAC is the most reasonable for blasting/range use. PMC isn't bad when I can find a sale on it. But as most have noticed prices are starting to climb.

I have shot over 1500 ounds of both Silver Bear and Brown Bear in my S&W M&P and have yet to have a malfunction. Yes, they run dirtier and they are not quite as accurate as good American ammo, but all the Russian stuff is cheap and that allows me more trigger time.
I have seen a lot of AR's and all that I have seen shoot run the steel case stuff OK.
