Dear THR,
If a gun is left in car for extended periods without cleaning between 500-1000 rounds, which will put perform between hk usp tactical and sig 226 tactical operations?
HkUsp has plus point that it comes with the threaded barrel as a complete tactical package. I understand that sig does sell tb separately is asked.

Thanks.

I chose the HK as a car gun not because I think it will function better after being left in a car without cleaning but because it is polymer. I'd hate to have to grab a metal gun that's sitting in my interior of my car when it's 165 degrees in there.

You'll still need to manipulate the slide and it is hot. Particularly if you grab it and wear it IWB with no undershirt and on a holster with combat cut. Ask me how I know. :)

Either one doesn't get too hot, though. And those are pretty low round counts and not a very tough environment. I'd hope both would function. If not, I'd probably not depend on them. I've gone to higher round counts without cleaning and nc law has me disarming going into many places, so my carry gun has no choice but to live quite a bit of time locked away in my car/truck.

Both will be more than adequate for the intended purpose. I think it really comes down to which you like more. I would go with the sig, but that's just because I like the Sig p22x series of guns more than I like the HK USP.

And just let me be the first to add, if you're set on using a gun with a threaded barrel, you might as well put on a micro suppressor as well :D Unsuppressed gunshots inside a car are LOUD!

Ah, sorry. I could have sworn the 226 Tac Ops came with a threaded barrel. I can never seem to keep up with all the different variations of Sigs these days.

What is the necessity for a threaded barrel in a car gun exactly?

The finish on the tac opps comes off fairly quickly.

The tac ops uses the same Nitron finish that the rest of the Sig line does. Wear is really not that much of a problem. The frame will show signs of wear more than the USP over time, but that is due to the fact that it is not polymer. The term "fairly quickly" is relative, but I have never seen a Nitron finished Sig that had the finish wear "fairly quickly"

Why would you need to manipulate the slide? Any gun that might be needed for emergency should be left with one in the chamber. To me a car gun is a cheap but reliable gun that serves to stay in the car, not be carried, except maybe if you don't have a carry gun for some strange reason. Generally they are full size since they won't be carried. My car gun is a Ruger P89 LE trade in that i got for $200. Often i carry a Ruger LC9 when attire makes a double stack impractical so the Ruger is there for in case of emergency while in the vehicle. Its a metal frame but not that bad in the summer with the hogue rubber grips.

Oh yeah, definitely the HK. Those things are built to run no matter what which is why they've been so popular with spec ops around the world.

There isn't one. I just believed that they both came with threaded barrels so I thought I'd recommend he actually do something with that extra threading instead of just letting it sit unused.

#12 I don't quite understand your point.

On threaded barrel, it is not a matter of necessity rather what comes in the entire package that is labeled " tactical".

I'm just trying to explain the practical side of things. I have a gun in the car pretty often and I've often times just pulled up on my property and went shooting. You may need to reloade, clear a jam or any number of things...or simply put it in a holster against bare skin.

Certain materials get hot, others (or some finishes)reflect heat and will be lukewarm or even cool to the touch after a day in a hot car. Again, I live in nc and our laws are crazy...so my gun lives in a car much of the time. I sold a black on black mustang not too long ago that was an oven. There would be dead (dried up, cooked) bugs on that thing constantly. I melted a kydex holster or two in it and I learned a few things here and there about leaving a gun and accessories in a vehicle.

If you leave either one in a car it deserves to get stolen. Cars are far from secure storage areas.
For cars I like my Glock 34...killed a nice 4 point Dodge last week. Had to follow a trail of oil over 3 blocks but there she was hunched up over a fire hydrant.

How "extended" are we talking about? Surely not long enough to collect dust bunnies or congeal the lubricant. :scrutiny: I wouldn't expect either of them to perform under those conditions.

Actually, when something is marketed with tactical label then one assumes that the package includes certain key features like tb, special sights and trigger. TB to me is important because with a proper sound suppressor you hearing loss is not an issue when fired indoors like a vehicle.

I was asking el Godfather since he mentioned that he would have to buy a spare barrel for the Sig.

El Godfather, where in the truck do you intend to keep the gun? Because even a smaller weapon with a suppressor is very large, much less a full-size gun. I would never want a suppressor on a carry or truck gun, it just makes it too hard to maneuver the weapon in confined spaces.
