Ruger SR1911

Name finally made it to the top of the list. A nice 1911, specially for the price, with good options. Grips pretty but no grip. Flat diamonds and urethane after the checkering (pressed) makes them feel slick. Added VZ Operators. Trigger averaged 6 Lbs 3.0 Ounces for 10 pulls. A little heavy, but crisp and zero over-travel. Slide to frame fit better than I expected for a mass-produced 1911.

At a gun show this past weekend, saw the SR1911, first one I'd seen other than my own. Had a price of 899 and sold within a half hour of show opening. That's a hundred bucks over retail. Crazy.

My son works for Ruger and just got one. It is really nice and sleek. I personally am not an auto fan but it sure is sweet. My Hubby and Son are trying to get me comfortable with the autos. How did Quiggly put it? "I said I never had much use for one. Never said I didn't know how to use it." Speaking of Quiggly, loved that sharps! Way cool!

What's with the sights? The front sight seems tall on them to me.

The LGS had one Monday that I played with - nothing special, but would make a good entry level 1911, IMO. Trigger did feel a bit heavy.

When I get one I'm going to put black grips on it to finish the black/silver contrast. But those VZ Operators really look sharp on that gun

Would you care to elaborate on your remark, or is it just an offhand comment?

I have an SR1911 among several other high quality 1911's and the SR1911 is comparable to any of them.

I made a bunch of phone calls too. Was getting nowhere. The list I'm on isn't even local, its a place that was known to get the elusive SR1911 every so often. I did place an order before Ruger quit taking orders though, so hopefully I'll be seeing one soon.

Not at all. As I've stated before concerning the SR, I have played range buddy to now two coworkers and friends who own one. One fellas runs as it should, and completely blew me away considering the very first SR I have had the privilege of firing wouldn't run for all the tea in china. FTEs, FTFs, and a very tight slide IMO. I may have been harsh by calling them junk, but I prefer others to the SR and for the price, used Phillipines 1911 with better reliability. But, everyone is apt to get a lemon. I applaud the OP on his purchase, and glad you've had good luck texagun. That is my limited experience, however unsatisfactory I find it, and I wish SR owners better luck.

The one I played with had 2 problems in 200 rounds. Both of which seemed to be magazine related with the 8 round mag. The gun itself was great to shoot and more accurate than I am...

Does this mean you've shot a total of 4 SR1911's or 2? If two, you are saying one worked and one didn't, correct? If 4, what were the other 2 like?

It really is OK to have an opinion based on your own experience. Does it really serve a purpose to cut down a product someone is pleased with, and then wish them luck?

Have had two in our rentals at work, no troubles from either. For the money seems a pretty good gun, favorable reviews from customers, cheaper then comparable Kimber's and they seem about on par with them, a step up for sure from your Rock Island's, Citadel's etc... Anyone that is familar with 1911's knows in the first couple hundred rounds you can have some issues while it breaks in, our two rentals seemed fine, but thats not to say other Ruger 1911's haven't had that issue. Overall the only thing I have found to complain about with the Ruger is availability.

Nice looking 1911. I wish Ruger would do a little better job machining the area of the frame around the grip safety.
