I've been kicking around the ideas of a 6x45 AR myself lately, would love to hear how it works for you when you're done about things like reliability, accuracy, and how well your getting the long 6mm bullets into the mag. Good luck!

Im planing on shooting in the 75 to 90 grain range staying within 2.260 col. Will definitely update with pics, and data.

Excited for the build, I really enjoy the AR-15 frame just dont like the .223/5.56 bullet. This will be my third AR in less than a year. I got black rifle disease.

Agreed on the .223. Would you by chance be able to get a chrono reading? I'm curious as to the ballistics of the round compared to other AR-15 cartridges. It probably can't compete with the grendel for long range but considering you keep the same mags and bolt seemes like a huge plus if it offers good things over the .223

For as much hand loading as I do, i really should just buy a chrono. unfortunately i do not own one or i would chrono my loads. The data I am loading from is from the Hodgdon website, using benchmark and H4895 as my initial test powders.

As far as comparisons to 6.5 Grendel or 6mmPPC both of these are stated as out performing 6x45, however the use of a standard BCG, and magazine really swayed me, just like .300 BLK did. Also the plethora of 6mm bullets also impacted my decision. In addition 6x45 will be more than accurate in the ranges i will be shooting out too.

Does the 6PPC even fit in the AR-15 lower? If so, that or a 6/6.5 BR would be a pretty nice round to use as well, thought surely a new bolt and mag would be needed and you'd probably run into COAL problems with feeding from the mag, but I'm just thinking out loud here I guess/

The 6mmPPC does not fit, but there is the 6mmAR, 6mmAR turbo, which is necked down 6.5 Grendel brass to 6mm. 6mmAR.com is the only place i have seen this, and it requires modified magazines and bolt swap.

I thought of theses but 6x45 is the most economical and i have a plethora of .223 brass to load.

Very true. Plus Lapua makes .223 brass IIRC which would be very high quality brass to neck up to the 6mm. Do you know anything on the brass life of the necked up .223 cases? I hear reports from time to time of split necks on brass that has been necked up.

Big Bad Bob we have to exchange info on powders and what not. I have loaded a bunch of 85grain HPBT sierras with H4895, AA2460, and Benchmark. Lemme know how it goes with yours when you're up and runnin'!

Yea I have a good bit of varget on hand might try it, another mentioned 4895 and BLC-2 as a good powder.

I posted this load data over on 1stMarine's .243 AR link, i think he is basically doing is 6x45, i has about 900 or so loads from 55-100 grains, all of the OAL are 2.260

how do you like your AR-Stoner barrel?
