Here's another data point. I have a DPMS upper on a Bushmaster lower and have used that rifle to shoot F-Class and tactical matches for the last four years. It's super accurate with 77gr SMK bullets and very reliable over 1,500+ rounds. No complaints here. Enjoy your new DPMS.

No, because there isn't one.

Mattel had absolutely nothing to do with building Colt M16-A1's during Vietnam, or at any other time.

There may be some truth to the rumor they did supply handguards under contract to Colt.
But I never saw one of those either when I was in the service 1964-70.

If you'd really "READ" my thread-starting post, you'd realized that is what I said. The inside of my M-16's forestock, aka 'handguard', in basic training WAS stamped "Mattell Toy Co". I know it to be FACT, not rumor.

I have had one for years. No problems so far. For a range queen they are great. IDK if I would use one if I was an operator, but again, so far I haven't had any problems.

IN process of mounting a Nikon M-223 on it. Depending on the rain tomorrow, I might make a trip to the range and see what she'll do.

DPMS/ZEDIKER/3G/Les B.

I've been bashed for owning DPMS and Bushmaster from so many internet experts and "the chart" waivers for years that I don't pay any attention to them any more. I've passed the 10,000 round mark years ago with my bushmaster and one of three of my DPMS's. I have two LR 308C's that I could not be happier with. Mr. Glen Zediker has used DPMS parts for years on his match rifles and a lot of the 3G match title holders did it with a DPMS.
My Armalite shot it's self to death at the 2,000 round mark and will never own one again.
Oh, FYI. Les B. never made the "chart" and they are some damn nice AR's.:)

I will only add that my DPMS has been shooting great for a few years, with at least 4K rounds down range, I have never had a FTE, or FTF or another problem. I have only shot brass, mostly mil-surp. I am not parajumping into a combat zone anytime soon, so for the most part I think DPMS is great. I have friends try to tell me the Colt or DD or fill in the blank is better, but in the end my rifle runs, and most of those bashers don't even have an AR. They think that they have to have the best to start and as such I hear alot of " when I get the money i'm getting the.....". In the meantime I have shot (and most of my friends) the heck out of my rifle and had a blast. Plus the money I saved helped fund my M1A which is a real hoot. 2 rifles is better then one any day of the week.

My 2nd post to this forum. The 1st was in response to this comment..."I always laugh at myself, thankfully, that I bought them before I learned on the internet how terrible they are " Funny how that comment came from a thread about the DPMS Panther Sportical.

Pros and Cons....Good or Bad....I just bought one. My FIRST AR!!! Last time I shot an AR platform was 1978...and it was called an M-16 A1...forestock was stamped "MATTEL TOY COMPANY". Was fun then...IM sure it's gonna be just as much fun now, other than I dont HAVE to wear OD Green fatigues and combat boots (unless I want to). Im looking forward to making this what I want it to be, which of now is (I dont know). I'll need some sights, maybe a red-dot.

Feel free to make comments, suggestions, etc. After all, that's why Im writing this.

Thanks..
Billy G
