Made one of my stops at best gun shop around today. They have had a DE 44CAL for sale and I know I don't need it, today however when I walked in one of the owners grabbed a box and headed in my direction. Again I know I don't need one but this was a gold plated DE in 50 cal with original factory box of shells. It was offered to me for $2000.00 but when others in store asked the price was $2500.00. If I get it I will have to get a special brace made to keep me on my feet and not let the gun dot my eyes. Someone give me a real reason I don't need it. Bad thing is I have the cash to spend if I want, don't have to answer to anyone expect myself for doing it, all the kids are grown and for the most part financially secure, grand kids are learning that Papaw don't always just dolt out cash anymore. Boy it sure is a pretty thing,

If you want it, buy it. That being said, it's not a bad deal, but it's not a smoking hot deal, either. If you check gunbroker's past auctions, you'll see that they sell (auctions with bids) for about $2,000 (gold .50) or slightly less.

If it were me, the gold would turn me off. But it's your money, do what makes you happy.
 
I didn't think the recoil was that bad when I shot one of my friend's .44 DE. Must be a combination of the weight and the rotating bolt that help keep the recoil somewhat manageable. Its quite a fun gun to shoot.
 
It's a toy - it's not about needing, it is about wanting. They are about as impractical a handgun as they get, but they look bad ass and make a loud sound. I think they are populer with the video gamer crowd (it's amazing how practical a DE can be when it's virtual).

If you want it and have the disposable cash to spend, get it. Look for a deal so if you get bored with it you won't get burned when you re-sell it.
 
Most likely I will wind up with it, one of the salesmen there has his eyes on a couple of my rifles. I know a woman that learned to shoot pistols back in the 80's, she has more trophies than I ever thought a person could have and most of those were won with her DE 50. It was almost comical to see this little woman with such a big gun.
 
If it's for hunting, maybe .50 would be good- but it's gold chromed! (maybe the deer will be stunned into holding still to stare at the AWESOMENESS of your new bling, yo!). if it's a toy, (which is totally cool if you have the money) get the same thing in .357, even if it costs an extra $500- you'll be able to shoot it 3 times as much. My wife would kill me for dropping 2 grand on anything unless it was jewelry for her... which means if i ever bring home a gold-plated gun, i'll never get to touch it again - it'll be HERS :p
 
Texan Scott I already have a small problem with the wife laying claim to several firearms now. But I think its great that she has shown so much interest in learning as much as she can. After she purchased her first handgun I told her to read the manual front to back, after about 15 min she came into my den and asked if I had written the manual because she said it was almost word for word what I have tried to teach her about safety and firearms. The gold finish on the DE would most likely find its way into "HER" collection.

This. If you've got the disposable cash and it floats your boat, don't over think it.
 
Wait a minute... you want it, you have cash in hand, no responsibilities will be neglected by spending the money, and you are getting a bit of a deal on it? I won't answer your question. I'll ask why your post is asking "should I" instead of a range report :p
 
the only real reason is the gold finish is not really durable and will start to wear with extended use.
 
You don't want to be accused of acting like an indecisive woman trying to decide on what color of shoes look best.....show your testosterone, buy it, howl at the full moon and don't look back!
 
Aside from it being gold I have no quarrel with your buying it;). Then again this is America and if you want a gold plated .50AE Desert Eagle you go get it:D. We do expect pictures though.:evil:

What about the rest of the gun?

I kid, I kid. But really, it caught your eye and you can swing it and you know that as of today, that gun sells for what you paid for it -ammunition.

WHy wait? At worst you'll be forced to get into silhouette shooting r handgun hunting or something.
 
firesky101 I have a Korean War commemorative M1 Garand that is accented with gold everywhere. My first thought was how nice it would look displayed next to each other. My neighbors have pretty much learned that when they hear gun fire it's just that old man out test firing something. Bet the DE 50cal will speak a with a very loud voice and authority. My grandson, son and me have been working to kill a mamosa (sp?) and so far have dropped on half of the tree, base of which is around 10". The other standing part should go real quick with the 50cal. And since no one has really made a solid argument against buying, next thing is to go in and start the haggling on price. THANKS EVERYONE

I'm sorry, but I'm not buying it. Outside of silhouette, NO ONE will win matches with a .50 AE. The recovery time is too great and magazine capacity too little. That, and the .50 AE didn't even hit the market until 1989......
 
I don't think buying it is the issue if it caught your eye and you can afford it. You know you'll be able to sell it down the road if the infatuation fades. I think the issue is the added expense and social ostracization of wearing your pants down around thigh high and the pain of shooting it all gangsta-sideways -n- stuff.
 
My buddy brought out his DE .50 AE yesterday and let me shoot it. Now that was fun. The felt recoil was less than my 4" Ruger Redhawk .44mag IMO.
 
My .44 Magnum DE is twice the fun of any .22 I own. If you want the gun and got the coin buy it and go have a blast ... literally.

With recent threads about the DE rekindling my interest I just loaded 500 rounds. Me and my [ex] Marine buddy will be unloading most of them from the front end today!
