I was wondering if anyone else has had any problems with rusting on their Ruger LC9? I've had mine since December and the slide has started rusting in the last month. I carry the gun everyday and work outside in Texas so it doesn't live the easiest life. I've tried Breakfree and various other oils to keep the thing from rusting and they don't seem to work. It's only rusting on the side of the pistol against my body and is carried in a Crossbreed Minituck. I know the part of the slide that's rusting has no direct contact with my skin at all. Any tips would be much appreciated. I think I may switch to my 442 until I get the LC9 sorted out, I haven't had any rust problems with the aluminum framed 442. I haven't had rusting problems with any other firearm I currently own, it makes me wonder about the Ruger.

I think it's the alloy also. I really like the gun but I can't carry it if it's going to rust like it is. I will look into Eezox though, thanks for the tip.

You should talk to Ruger they have good CS - you know you could have it plated or coated with something - should not have to, but you know sometimes....

Yeah, I think I may have to go with a really good coating. I know Ruger has good customer service, I'm just not sure they can do anything about it. They would probably only reblue the slide. It really seems like a metal issue to me. I have plenty of other blued pistols that have holster wear that don't have any rust. Heck, I have a blued Ruger Vaquero with a ton of holster wear that doesn't have a speck of rust on it.

Here in Alabama our carry guns get humidity and sweat - EEZOX works well and it smells good - I like the way it smells. I do blast then Park then MolyCoat some guns with excellent results - does not require much corrosion protection after that.

I OC my PF-9 in summer and had the same problem...Birchwood Casey Barricade helped, but I finally broke down and sent the barrel & slide in for chroming...Problem solved.

I carry my lc9 almost daily owb in a slide holster. No rust.I used to pocket carry a m37 jframe and sweat on the cylinder and had some surface rust.I think all blued steel is susceptible.

I wish they would at least offer the LC9 in stainless. This bluing just isn't going to cut it for me. I'm probably just going to get the thing nickel plated, or something similar. It would be way more corrosion resistant and would look better at the same time.

I think the problem is the holster. Leather holsters will accumulate moisture from the air and sweat. You might try oiling the holster in the area that the slide contacts. I used to have a problem with a leather holster that caused spots of rust on my S&W Highway Patrolman. I oiled the holster's interior and that seemed to cure the problem. I prefer Kydex holsters now though I carry my LC9 in a Tagus leather paddle holster. Sure wish Fobus would make a left handed paddle for the LC9.

Mine goes to the gym in my pocket and I sweat, not perspire, every day for months now, in FL, no rust.
