How do out of state LEO's escorting football teams legally carry (whether open or concealed) in another state while working for college team?

For example a Louisiana state trooper going with LSU to Tuscaloosa to an LSU-Alabama game and standing on the field with the team.

It is my understanding that LEOSA just covers off duty CONCEALED carry.

I have seen this quite a bit at college sporting events.

They are acting in an official capacity.........just as if they were escorting a prisoner across state lines.

Dogtown another ex. is escorting the governor. In SC if you are a state trooper you can even take your car out of state one time a month to see family.

What dogtown said. I don't care if they let me carry a gun or not I want that job.
I wonder if private schools get escorts or do they have to get their own.

HR218 was a bill that was enacted a few years ago that give certified police officers and qualified retired officers the right to carry in all states as long as certain conditions are met.

Yeah that is a pretty good job to be a state trooper that escorts a college football team. See all the games and travel with the team.

IDK precisely what allows them to do so, but I'd imagine it is part of their official duty, and therefore allowed. For Iowa, they always have the same trooper escort the coach. He has to be one of the best known, and yet nameless guys around. It seems to never fail, once or twice a year someone will start a thread on Hawkeye Report about his grips. You can see why I like them :D

HR 218 has nothing to do with an active LEO carrying in the performance of his offical duties.

Pretty much because local law enforcement will OK any other LEO doing his/ her job in their state.

Besides a trooper acting as a bodyguard isn't going to be stepping on any of the local LEO's toes. (ie he's NOT there to engage in proactive law enforcement.)

There is probably some law on the books that says something to the effect that local LEO's can give jurisdiction to out of state LEO's upon request.

In this kind situation I would say the request is just "understood" and not formally made by anyone.

LEO's do give each other a lot of wiggle room being that they "play on the same team" so to speak.

Not that they play each other but I wonder what would happen should LSU (with all kinds of carry rights) plays Princeton or Rutgers (with NJ's laws).

First of all, there are no state laws in Alabama that prohibit firearms on the grounds of any type of College or University. In fact, the only law on the books about schools in general and firearms is that it is unlawful to possess a firearm on the grounds of K-12 schools with the intent to do harm. As long as you are not attempting to do anyone harm and are not a student in K-12 it is legal and are not a student in K-12

http://law.findlaw.com/state-laws/gun-control/alabama/

16-1-24.3 Expulsion of students for one year, who are determined to have brought to school or have in their possession a firearm in a school building, on school grounds, or school buses, or at other school-sponsored function. 13A-11-72 Except for authorized law enforcement officers, no person shall knowingly with intent to do bodily harm possess a deadly weapon on the premises of a public school.

However, for the rest of us, Universities, Colleges and K-12 schools don't want most people to carry on most school property and you can be trespassed if caught and you refuse to leave. If you work there or are a student you can be suspended, fired or expelled. Also, if you get a trespass conviction the local sheriff can revoke your carry permit or deny you one.

Basically they don't like it so don't do it unless you are a cop.

The best part of that detail would be all the eye candy that tags along with college sports....you know, the cheering ones! That trooper in the pic above looked to have a j-frame or k-frame?

I would assume even states like New York and New Jersey let out of state LEO's to come in for work purposes like getting prisoners, escorting say the Virginia governor, and carry wherever they need just like their own police
