I've got a nice looking combat master in layaway at my LGS. Its to be an early Seattle, WA gun, serial #187**. It looks stainless but I'm not entirely sure, could be chrome or nickel. The rear sight is fixed and it has the flat pachymayer MSH.

What I want to know is what Mark is that pistol? Is that chrome, nickel or stainless? To me it looks stainless because it didn't have that super shiny, chrome bumper look and it didn't have that warm, tan hue that nickel seems to have.

From what I've read if it is stainless then it is a Mk V, but if it's nickel then it is a Mk II.

Also it comes with two magazines that I believe are original, they are marked Detonics 45 ACP and they fit flush.

“Although there are six different models available to the general buying public, a Detonics is a Detonics is a Detonics. Only finish, type of material used and adjustable rear sight differentiate one model from another. The plain-Jane entrant is the Combat Master Mark I, attired in a matte blue finish, fixed sights, with a retail price of $369 (1980). Stepping up a notch, the Mark II is a fixed-sight model dressed in a satin nickel finish with a price tag of $390. The Mark III is handsome in its hard chrome appearance with fixed sights and sells for $488. Variation number IV is resplendent in a mirror-bright blue finish and adjustable rear sight, and $499 will allow the buyer to take one home. The Mark V is a brushed-finish, stainless steel model with fixed sights and will sell for $498 ($626, 1983). And, finally, the top-of-the-line model is the Presentation-grade, Professional Mark VI which boosts the price to $575 ($635, 1983)[There was eventually also a sightless Mark VII, also $635 in 1983].”

That is where I got my info... Doesn't really explain the Mk VI too well.

Mk 1 matte blue/fixed
Mk 2 nickel/fixed
Mk 3 chrome/fixed
Mk 4 mirror blue/adjustable
Mk 5 brushed stainless/fixed

So I'm guessing Mk 6 was polished stainless/adjustable if it follows that pattern.

YOU have one of the best that ever was....when these first came out they tried verything to make it mal-function...couldn't. When they cleaned it they ran it thru a dishwasher.....I read ""every"" publication/gun mag that did a review on these....way back then when I did not need Trifocals....

Value is rather subjective but less than $700 would be steal...but only a knowledgable buyer will know this...and I'd guess not many here are familar with the first models of which I had 3 and to this day I regret selling them...consec serial numbers......grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Every Detonics on Gunbroker is going for $800 or so.. if you can beat that price, buy it.
