What's the longest revolver barrel length that you would try to carry concealed?

The novelty of a 6 inch in a shoulder rig under a jacket wore of quickly for me.

I've carried my 8 3/8" 629 a few times, but normaly its a 4" S&W 66.

From time to time I semi regularly carry a 5" s&w j frame.

As far as carry goes it rides my hip better than a snubby because the barrel pushes out against my hip and thus the grip rides in. This makes for a really close carrying gun.

The downside is making sure the muzzle is concealed.

But bear in mind a 60/18 is a very light gun.

My holster is a bell charter oak m&pIII

CC 3 or 4 inches is the max. OC maybe 5 or 6, I have a Ruger GP100 and a shoulder rig but it is awkward to draw. Same with my Hi-Powers or my 1911.

4" barrel is plenty concealable...with the right belt, holster, and clothing.

Can your back handle it, is the real question?

Heck, I'd TRY to carry ANY revolver concealed, but generally feel the 4-5" range is tops for doing so successfully/comfortably.

We often say that barrel length is not all that important (assuming an IWB rig) but above 5-6" you tend to have problems sitting down!

I haven't, and wouldn't, carry any of my 4" or 6" pistols, my 3" SP101 was more than enough. In fact, I went from the SP101 to a 462, but that was more of a weight than barrel length issue.

4 inch under winter clothing is easy, not so much in summer when a snubbie suits me well.

I've done a 6 in a shoulder holster or slid down in the waistband but usually a 4".

If you want to conceal a long barreled revolver, find a nice, used Safariland 101 shoulder holster. They are relatively comfortable, ride close to the body, and fit the guns they are designed for very well(they even made some specific for single action revolvers). That being said, for true concealment, 4-5" barreled revolvers are about maximum I try to hide, although I have a nice Safariland 101 for a 6.5" Ruger .44 mag, that will hide the gun, but I mostly use it for hunting under my coat.

In the fall, winter, and spring, I often carry a 4 3/4" Colt SAA. At this time of year, I can't find a comfortable way to carry it without printing, It's just way too hot to wear the right clothing so I stick with a 3" Ruger SP101.

4" is the absolute longest.

Definitely a 3" barrel is doable so I would say a 4" barrel for me would be the longest I would try. If I did carry a 4" barrel revolver it would have to be in the fall and winter months as well.

IWB it's 3 inch for me.....On my belt I have carried a 6 inch Dan Wesson but find it cumbersome. I have traveled many many times/miles with a Colt Trooper .357 and find that close to the limit as I get older. Like some of the others I've chest carried .44's and can tell you it ain't my favorite.

I have concealed a 6" N Frame on occasion. It took a shoulder holster to accomplish.

5" in my .357 revolvers. Not much different than full size 1911. Kidney carry with the end of the barrel in the back pocket or shoulder holster. Unfortunately these are the only 5" guns I have the rest are 4". If I had the Money to customise all my revolvers they would have 5 and 3 inch barrels.
