Hi All
I am looking at getting one of the new 9mm pocket (or just small) pistols. I have heard good things about the S&W Shield, but there a bit hard to find in stock right now. There is the Glock 26 (nice as I carry a Glock 19 every now and then) but its a bit more bulky then I would like. Lastly the Ruger LC 9. I haven't heard a lot about them and there is one at the local Acadamy that I can look at and get a feel for (they also have the Glock but not the S&W). What do you recomend and why?

Thanks
WB

Another vote for the 9mm Shield!! At 14 yards with Hornady Z-Maxx ammo.

Also the venerable J frame is always a favorite.

357 Magnum S&W m649-3 shot at 14 yards with 158 grain Fiocchi Extrema 357 magnum loads with the Hornady XTP bullets. The recoil is about 2 times lighter than my 357 Ruger LCR with the same loads. I am better with a larger grips but this isn't too bad for full house 357 loads in a J frame.

I voted Shield. I owned an LC9 for about a month. Once I finally handled a Shield I gave the LC9 away as a gift. I'll be saving for a Shield once I finish my AR build.

I voted other because I don't like the idea of pocket carrying a gun with a preset trigger. The Ruger is probably the safest of the three as it does have a longer trigger pull. The Kel Tec P-11 is my favorite for a true pocket carry 9mm. I really wish there were other options, but no one else makes a double action pocket size 9mm with a ten round magazine.

I think the quality of the G26 is as close to tops in quality and reliability as you will find, but I question whether it is a true pocket pistol.

Out of the 3 the lc9 is the closest to a pocket pistol, but i voted other. Its the weight that gets you and with the glock the weight and the width. What I found with pistols with too small of a grip is there too hard to get a hold of and draw from a pocket.Rohrbaugh or the diamondback db9 if they fix the issues with it or a 380.

I know I said pocket gun. But it will be carried on the hip for the most part. I just couldn't think of a good way to say that I was looking for a mini gun (see that just don't sound like I am looking for a pistol. Sounds more like a GE product).

Thanks

My 26 isn't much of a pocket gun...
The Shield isn't much of one either, but still slimmer than the 26 by a couple hairs.
The Ruger LC9 has an awful, awful trigger, but sits in the pocket nicely.

Now, I voted other, and that's because I think for a 9mm pocket gun, you cannot beat a Kahr CM/PM9. They're smaller than the LC9, and have a much nicer trigger. The CM is a cheaper version of the PM (has less milling, different engraving, traditional rifling instead of Polygonal, and I think only comes with one mag).

I've shot all three of the guns in your poll, own the 26, and am buying a Kahr CM9 in a week or so. It's just like a tiny Glock.

I think you'll find that most of those are gonna be somewhat bulky for pocket carry.. If it were me I would get something smaller: Sig 938, Kahr PM9 (cm9), LCP maybe? Best of luck!

Well none of your options fit in my pocket. I carry a g26 appendix carry daily. Extremely comfortable and easy to draw from any position, included seated with a seat belt. Best of all, I don't need +2 pants. Of course I found appendix carry awful back when I had a gut and love handles.

I like my LC9. I plan doing the trigger mod on it though. Honestly though the trigger feels like a DOA revolver pull. It says 6.5 lb pull, but its just so long.

I'd look at the Kahr CM9. On the hip you won't notice it and it's still just small enough to fit into certain pockets.

I voted other. I'm a big fan of the g26 you have listed , but to be its a little big for pocket carry. I think the kahr cm9 is a great selection. It's accurate, reliable, and affordable. It's a great price at 399.00 for what your getting. Mine rides in an uncle Nikes #4 holster daily.
You also have the option of 6+1 or 7+1.

Sho nuff... Shield FTW!

Word from those who have shot both is that the 938 has more recoil.

Of those 3 choices, the LC9 is about the only one you'll be able to pocket carry (IMO).

I have the LC9 and like the fact that I can put it in a cheap Uncle Mike's and drop it in most of my pockets. I do not like the super long trigger pull however. Can't hit much of anything past 10 yards. I don't expect the LC9 to preform like a target pistol, but a degree of accuracy would be nice. I know it's me and not the gun, but I can shoot pretty much anything else so much better than the LC9, including my LCR.

I voted for the Ruger LC9. But I actually have been carrying a Ruger LCR, .38 special all of the time, for over a year, for my pocket pistol. I have a .357 magnum LCR too. But it's a little heavier, so I mostly carry it in a belt holster, on my hip.
They are both -light and handy and give me "5 For Sure".

My Dear Wife carries a Keltec PF9 for her regular pocket pistol. It shoots fine.
If I were buying a small auto for pocket carry, it would probably be the Ruger, LC9

Soon as I get around to getting a Remora holster, I'm going to be pocket carrying a XDm compact, so...lots of options depending on pocket size.
