LGS just got one in and I had it put on hold until monday. Is this reliable pistol that could be used for defensive purposes (the rear adjustable sight is pretty much flush with the slide)? While I have reached dream of owning just one firearm I might buy this one to make it two. Please provide some feedback on this pistol. Thanks.

Yeah. It can be used for anything you could possibly hope to use a 9mm to do. If you can afford the purchase price, go for it. The P-210 in any of it's variants is the Gold Standard of production 9mms. (It comes off an assembly line, but it's virtually a custom gun, due to the care and attention taken in it's manufacture.)

You need to do a Google Search on SIG P-210; that you have to ask tells us you're relatively unfamiliar with the gun or it's history.

PabloJ,

Congratulations on your purchase! I am curious however on what steered you into the -210 when you are not familiar with it? You will have to forgive my curiosity, because asking if the -210 is a good firearm would be the equivalent of going onto the Ford forum and asking if the GT-40 is a fast car...

With "new" SIG P210 Target, you probably mean the SIG Sauer P210 Legend? It is made in Eckernförde, a real SIG P210 was made in Switzerland.

I haven't bought it yet. I was looking at Hammerli .22 target pistol so Joe thought I would be interested in centerfire plinkler and brought out brown cardboard box that had black plastic bag with German Sig 9x19 pistol in it. It looks to be very well made professional grade pistol. I have till tomorrow to decide whether to buy it or not.

Yes but from what I read people who own both say the new one is the better of the two. And that's saying something.

I've been thinking about selling every handgun I own and buying just one - a Sig P210 Legend with adjustable sights. I think I could bring in enough money from the sale of my other handguns to buy the 210. It is the Porsche 911 of pistols for sure. Incredibly accurate yet a real world, working gun at the same time. Yep that's a 911 alright. It's perfection in handguns IMO.

There is no "German SIG". Only SIG Sauer and the Legend is neither their top of the line, nor best pistol.

A 210 is a dream of mine that I have never quite been able to justify. Congrats and post some pictures please when you get it (if you do). Frankly it's legendary for accuracy and reliability. Quite an expensive gun.

Sharpsdressedman,

I own a Swiss-made SIG P210-4 and have had the priviledge to shoot P210-2s and -6s, as well as the SIG P210 Legend. The P210 Legend is still an above average pistol with several improvements over the SIG P210, particularly the earlier light frame models but they are not assembled the same way, they are made on CNC machines with less hand fitting and without the Swiss love for detail.
In general the triggers on the Swiss SIG P210s are superior to the SIG Sauer P210s and the finished product can be best compared to a masterfully done handcheckering and machine pressed checkering.

Now, I also had the pleasure to shoot a P 220 X-Six in .45 ACP and was pretty impressed with the gun and the way that it shot.

To put it the easy way; if you want the legendary SIG, get a SIG P210. If you want the best SIG Sauer has to offer, get an X-series.

I first fired a SIG 210 over 40 yrs. ago. I wanted to find one and accidently ran into one for sale about 5 yrs ago. It was expensive, but I knew it was now or never. I got it, a 210-6 with adjustable sights. Great gun except for the hammer bite and mag release. I can’t fix the mag release but I fixed the hammer bite. The Legend has both of those issues resolved. If you can afford it, go for it.

A Legend mag with a Sig P225 base plate will work in a P210 if you file 1/16" off the back of the base plate and cold blue the edge.

I bought the mags and base plates from Top Gun Supply after I bought one of his old P210's last year. The thread with pics was on sigforum, which is where I learned about the modification.

I am aware of that but after spending about $3,000 on a gun, there should also be money left for the original magazines.

This looks like an interesting way to come up with new mags. Older, bottom release mags are hard to find and very expensive.

"I am aware of that but after spending about $3,000 on a gun, there should also be money left for the original magazines."

I have 3 original mags for mine.

After I bought the 2 additional ones I was told that one original mag is enough because they work indefinitely. They also told me that having a spare is reassuring, but the second one will probably never be needed even if I were to shoot in weekly competitions for many, many years.

Oh well, maybe I'll purchase a P-210 to go with each of the extra mags.

Legend Target has exceeded expectations

Just want to chime in on this. I have had a Sig Sauer P210 Legend Target for about a year. I have put approximately 1,000 rounds through it (mostly 115 gr. Winchester White Box, but also some 115 gr. Blazer Brass and about 100 rounds of Speer 124 gr. Gold Dots). It has not had a single malfunction yet. The trigger and sights are excellent, and so are the fit and finish of the gun. I practiced International style precision shooting for many years and I know what I am looking for in a good trigger (currently my other high end guns include a Benelli MP-90S World Cup and a Unique DES-69). The trigger on the P210 Legend Target is great! The gun has so far exceeded my expectations. I would recommend it to anyone willing to spend that kind of money on a firearm. Quality beats quantity.

couldnt help notice this thread, cause yesterday at my local range got to shoot a friends 210, not sure if this is the target model. handles nicely, its only a 8 rounder single stack, trigger is very nice, finish is excellent, rackin the slide is super smooth. you can tell that this gun is somethin special:)

The gun was excellent in every way but I did not buy it because I could never shoot the gun to it's true potential. Me shooting that that would be like taking Ivo Fabbri live bird gun to local skeet/trap range.:uhoh:
