Haz Mat ?

If you are saying thst powder and primers cannot be shipped together, you are incorrect - you can have both shipped in one package for one hazmat fee

That you can.

As I posted earlier in this thread, I ordered 6,000 primers and 12 lbs of powder from Powder Valley on one hazmat charge and in one box. It is very well known that they do this. I haven't actually looked at the law, but it seems like if it were not legal they wouldn't be doing it continually, regularly, and openly...

I guess

Ah, yeah, your are right, you can ship up to 48?? pounds combined, BUT they have to ship differently outside the 1st 48, and that's why I have to pay separate, as one of them can only go on a cargo flight, and you are charged a hasmat per packaging group.

Why don't you just ask your guy to order some in?
Stores do that all the time - you might have to wait until he places his next order, but then you might save some money

Thee are other alternatives to CCI LRM as well

i can, and he will. but i have to buy the whole case of 5000. it is not something he normally stocks. and does not want to stock. as far as other primers, yes i know. but i would have to re work all of my loads. loads that i have been using in some cases, for more than 20 years. that is a lot of messing around, and a lot of bullets down range, and a lot of powder burned as well. if i knew i had another 30 years of shooting in me, i would just go ahead and buy the 5000 case lot. but my family is not long lived. and i am actually only 2 years from the average age when the men in my family die. since i do not smoke, like everyone else, i am hoping i live a lot longer. but i do have other health issues, that are catching up with me. i am really hoping i can live long enough to see my youngest married. but the one thing life has taught me is that tomorrow is not guaranteed. i am not ready to seel everything off and sit in a rocker till i pass. but i am not going to buy what may very well be way more stuff than i will ever be able to use.

Primers (Division 1.4 explosive) and Smokeless Powder (Division 4.1 Flammable Solid) are compatable materials and may be packed together in an overpack. Both materials must be in proper packaging and the markings and labels for each material must be on the outside of the overpack.

It's a little more complicated than that but I don't want to put people to sleep with a long explanation.

As a matter of fact Grafs will now combine Smokeless Powder, Primers, and Black powder on the same hazmat fee. Very nice as black powder is nearly impossible to find locally (and the few places that carry it charge a fortune), so being able to toss in another pound or two of it with my smokeless order is a huge help.

In addition, to my knowledge smokeless powder and primers are scheduled to be delisted from the hazmat list as of 2014. Not sure if that will get changed based on legislation but for the most part reloading seems to be a largely ignored (many anti's were unaware that MAGAZINES could be reloaded when the 1994 AWB was passed - they expected the supply to dry up after the existing mags had been "used". I'm sure reloaded spent cases it completely foreign to them :)).

I am curious, why is there the haz mat fee for primers but not regular ammunition? After all, a loaded cartridge has a primer in it right? Is it because once the primer is loaded into a case it is safer or something?
Primed brass can also be shipped like loaded ammo.

I am curious where you heard that. There's not a chance in hell that will happen.

X Wrench - even if you have to buy the whole 5000 sleeve - it isn't like they go bad if kept inside - and if it helps the hazmat, it still might be worth it

And you could always see if friends need some and sell some to them
