I recently aquired a Glock 26 (gen 3) and a Kel Tec P-11 as I've been looking for a reliable very small 9mm for IWB carry that had a minimum capacity of 10 rounds.

I got the Kel Tec first basically because it was around 1/2 the price of the Glock. The pistol feels good in my hand (in fact better than the Glock) an is very small. After 700 rounds I have had no cycling issues with any of the various types of ammo I've tried. The slide stop lever did break but didn't cause a stoppage. Kel Tec sent a replacement. My issue with this pistol is that I just don't shoot it well. It has a long heavy D/A trigger and though its comfortable enough for me I just don't seem to be getting the hang of it.

I bought a G26 last week and have around 300 rounds through so far. No failures of any kind except the occasional ejected case to the forehead. Not a huge deal for me. As I pictured in another thread, the grip didn't fit me that well. A little time with a file and some sandpaper (undercutting the trigger guard and removing the finger groove bump) made it much more comfortable for me to hold. I shoot this pistol well and comfortably.

Pictured below are two groupings I shot last night using Winchester White Box 115 grain rounds. 10 shots off hand at 7 yards (no pinky extensions on either). The diamond is 4 inches and the center square is 1 inch. This was typical of my groupings with these pistols. Its obvious which one I shoot better. The Glock has a very solid feel to me and its the one I'll carry. For self defense ranges (approx 7 yards and in) the Kel Tec will get the job done so I'm not bashing it in any way. I plan on keeping it and probably leaving it in my truck.

The Kel-Tec is a DAO design witrh second strike capability, not a DA. I know, sounds like silly semantics but there is a huge difference between the two.

As for the long trigger pull with the P11, you can do a simple mode that will help this quite a bit. Install a trigger shoe and you'll be surprised how much it helps.

The Glock 26 can benefit from a magazine extension from Pierce, either in the +1 or 0 configuration. This really helps a lot with your little finger gaining purchase on the grip.

Between the two, the Glock is by far a better gun. This is not to say that the Kel-Tec is not a good choice, just that the Glock is a better one. The Glock can take +P or +P+ ammo whereas the Kel-Tec cannot (it is not recommended to do this by the manufacturer).

I have owned both, had the same issue as you did. Sold the P11, kept the Glock 26. Big pistol performance in a little package. Great in an IWB.

I don't do Glock. I've owned and carried a P11 since 96, lotsa rounds down range. It is my primary carry and I pocket the gun. I would not pocket a "safe action" gun other than condition 3. I don't like Glock's use of polygonal rifling as I primarily cast my own bullets for practice. The Kel Tec is quite a bit more compact and lighter for pocket carry. The Glock, even if I felt it safe to do so, is way too porky for pocket carry.

To each his own. I'll never own a Glock, though. I may own an XD some day (safer and standard rifling), but never a Glock, ever. But, then, I'm a good DA shooter, been shooting DA since I started with a K22 Masterpiece in the 60s.

MCgunner... If you're carrying the gun in your pocket without a holster, the Glock's trigger isn't the safety issue.

I also regularly carry a P11. Wish there were more options, but it's really the only gun in it's class. As far as accuracy goes, it is quite accurate once you get use to the trigger.

You can use a sw model 59 mags as backup mag for the p-11 and have 15 rounds on hand. Don't know if your p-11 is an early or later model but they do have a 2lb littler spring for it to lower the pull weight. If you haven't put some brite white paint on the front sight to help with group size too. I was also told buy a kt cs guy that +P round could be used for carry in both 9mm's and I shoot several hundred in a pf-9 and p-11 befor carry'n ether of the ones I had. Still used a a regular standard load for basic practice. Baby glocks tend to be fatties when it comes to cc'n . Rather have a g19 for a glock but nether makes it as pocket pistols. I did pocket the pf-9 for 2 1/2 years . That might be an option if you will not cc your p-11 and trade it for a pf-9 that can be iwb when something thinner is needed or depending on pants pocketed when that works. get a slip on mag extender for the g26 to use the g19 mags for the truck if cc'n a KT.

Glock 26 isn't even supposed to be in the same league as the Kel Tec. Heck, we are talking about different sports even!

G26 is one of the best handguns in the market, and if you're only going to have one gun, it should be a G26 or G19.

Obvious fanboiism is obvious. The Glock is one of the best, I'll agree, and my blanket recommendation on handgun is G19. That said, I do not see any Glock in my future, because I like other options better.

He never said he carried it without a holster. That said, I'll agree that with a decent holster, a striker-fired pistol can easily be safely carried in the pocket.

No, but my thinking is like yours... any decent holster will protect the trigger, so I wondered if he had a holster. Anyway, I don't pocket carry mine because of pocket issues... If I WERE to PC it (or anything, really), I would have an Alabama Kydex holster for sure. It's passive, but it positively snaps into place, and you press off of a little thumb tab to pop the gun out. Also, I hear they don't print much at all.

I pocket carry my P-11 without a holster. I tested it by putting it in my pocket and trying everything I could to pull the trigger. My pants do not flex enough to be able to accidentally pull the trigger. I wouldn't consider pocket carrying a gun if it failed that test.

It is to bad glock did not make the baby g's 3/16th thinner and trim that chunck of a grip down to fit a short cartidge. You know a true compact. I like shooting larger glocks but have no use for the mini versions.

Neviander, that's haterade.

I will not own a Glock, not because I hate Glock, but Glock hates me. PUT IN AMBI FEATURES YOU SMEGGING RIGHT-HANDED LUDDITES! Whew, got that off my chest. In all seriousness, the current reason I justify preferring XDm over Glock is that XDm mag release is ambi, Glock is only reversible.

I bought a 26 or an SR9c simply because I shoot Glocks better. I don't like that I do. I certainly find them boring and utterly utility-based in form, but I'm just a better shot with one.

As for the safety of an XD (and please don't take this as a slight or an us/them dig. I earnestly want to know), aren't the XD pistols' strikers fulled cocked when the slide is worked rather than half-cocked in the Glock? I always got more warm and fuzzy feelings about my Glock not being ready to "go off" without finishing up the cocking by pulling the trigger rather than having a grip safety.

Ultimately both are fine guns. I certainly wouldn't turn an XD down, I just prefer my very imperfect Glocks.

Fiv3r, the XD still has the same passive safeties that a Glock does, and something would have to fail for it to go off accidentally, or I'd have to fail for it go off negligently.

As a southpaw myself, what part of the Glock short of the slide stop release is not lefty friendly? The big reason why I don't carry a 1911 is because most of them come with right-only safeties. I CAN manipulate the slide release on the Glock, but I just sling shot it most of the time. Furthermore, the mag release is no big deal. I've always dropped the mag with my trigger finger rather than my thumb. However, Gen 4 Glocks come with an extended and left handed switchable release.

I purposely warmed up to Glocks BECAUSE they fit my sinister hand better:confused:

Owned both and have same experiences. After a 20 or 30 rounds at the range, my hand was beat with KelTec. With Glock can shoot all day no issues. Never got as good with KelTec, let several experienced shooters use KelTec and none of them demostrated good groups. Keltec is probably accurate if you could ever hold it tight enough and get the trigger pull down. Now, have G17 Gen 4 to keep the G26 company

Soap box: Reversible is NOT ambidextrous. Ambidextrous is where I can use it left-handed, hand it to my friend at the range, and he uses it right-handed, all with the same MOA. Reversible is where I use it left handed, break it down, reverse it, and hand it to my friend to use it right-handed at the range.

Slide stop annoys me, but there really aren't any pocket pistols with a left-handed slide stop, so because I want to have the exact same MOA on both a double-stack duty/compact pistol and a single-stack sub-compact, I am not looking for something with ambi slide release (which the XDm does not have). If someone suddenly realizes that a lefty-friendly pocket pistol is desireable and makes one, I will opt for it.

I also believe that all controls (except trigger) should be manipulated by the thumb. It is much more intuitive to flip the thumb up than it is to find the thing with my trigger finger.

Glock vs Kel-Tec is not even a fair fight.

Run from the KT as fast as your two legs will carry you and get a Glock 26. The G26 is one of the greatest handguns ever made. This is a quote-unquote NO BRAINER.

I never have any fears that my Glock 26 will not work if i need it, i do have those fears when carrying other small pistols and i have had a few. i have and do conceal it with just a T-shirt so it is not a problem there.

You won't be running quite as fast after you shoot yourself in the leg with that Glock.

Do you actually plan on shooting it on a regular basis or just run a mag or two through it and call it good?

If you're gonna practice on a regular basis get the G26. Much more pleasant to shoot, far better control, and much higher quality pistol that will hold up to repeated use.

The P11 not so much. Horrible trigger, nasty recoil that will get uncomfortable real quick, and very poor quality I had 3 broken slide-stops, a broken firing-pin and ejector. All with less than 1K through it.

Thousands of rounds through my Glocks without a single broken part ever.

If you're gonna pocket carry a G26 and are worried about shooting yourself you might consider a MIC holster.

Like a lot of weapons Glocks can be very dangerous especially if you're stupid. :D

I agree that the two pistols cannot be compared...but not because one is KT and the other is Glock...simply because they belong to a different size class and serve different purposes...

The P-11 is a true pocket piece period.....non very pleasant to shoot for long, you need to get used to the long trigger pull (but at least is consistent and not gritty in my case)...is not a range/plinking piece...just shooting once in a while to be proficient and then clean it and back in the holster....

The G26, in my view does not really serve any particular purpose...you cannot pocket it (the P-11 is already pushing the limit in that regard) and is not really more concealable, in my opinion, than other compact design slightly bigger....it is definitely more concealable than a full size.....that's about it...

No soft holster would make me feel safe pocketing a G26 (assuming it could be pocketable which is not) with a round in the pipe....and I would not carry a rigid holster in my pocket.....

An inexpensive Uncle Mike's pocket holster is all I need for my P-11..or a De Santis...

Never had any problem with KT quality....

Again, the two pistols serve different purposes so I'm not sure what the sense of the comparo really is....the real comparison, as far as the P-11 is concerned, is with the Kahr micropistols...

I also don't consider the G26 to be a pocket carry piece...I have a P3AT for that.
But, I do consider the G26 to be one of the finest CCW pistols ever made. It carries IWB beautifully and is easy to conceal. It is reliable to the extreme. For its tiny size, it shoots like a full size 9mm. In fact, I recently outshot a good friend and his Browning HiPower, which he has owned and shot for 30yrs, in a little impromptu shooting match.
I like Glocks in general, but I consider the G26 to be one of the best of the bunch.
