I have a Lyman UltraSonic Cleaner that I used a few days ago on my Ruger P95 9mm slide, spring, and barrel. I ran that through after my SP101. The SP101 looked great, so I tried the P95 parts.
I was using water and a little Dawn. Ran it through twice, 8 min apiece. Total 16 mins.
The P95 parts looked terrible and just plain felt dry. I then looked at the Ruger site to check out the composition of the slide (should have done that first, I know). Says it's blued steel. The barrel is stainless steel. It looks fine.
I know I saw in some forum post about the US stripping off the bluing. And that it sucks any oil out of the metal. It's not aluminum, as I said, it's steel.
I wonder: have I ruined the gun, or mainly caused cosmetic issues? I'm concerned that I have somehow made the steel components more brittle?
Am I just being a worry-wart? Looking for an excuse to get the P95 with Stainless Steel?
Thanks in advance for any help.
