I will not spend one more red cent on IWB carry holsters. I have a Crossbreed Supertuck, a CTAC and a Minotaur and I'm done with it. IWB is just not for me. I have been carrying a Makarov in a cheap nylon OWB because it's so much more comfortable. All of my IWB holsters are for an XD40sc. What do you Guys that carry OWB use? Looking forward to replies!

I just ordered this exact setup by TT Gunleather for my new Glock 17. I'm a big fan of Tim's work and won't go anywhere else for my leather holster needs. He has several different OWB holster models to choose from too. Definitely worth a look. Good luck!

Nightingale leather and he is a member here...I have two of his Harrier (under Avenger OWB) on his website...one for a SiG P245 and one for my SiG Pro SP2340...all day comfort...

I use either a galco COP 3 slide or a DeSantis speed scabbard. both are good quality for about 80 bucks. They are OWB but fit close to the body and conceal well with an untucked shirt.

I dont know about for a makarov, but the f l e t c h is an outstanding owb rig.

In the meantime, try carrying your favorite IWB holster beween your belt and pants, with the clip outside the belt (let the belt out one hole.) This is known as "inside-the-belt" carry (ITB) and makes a good compromise between the two methods. I carried this way for years. Still do pretty often, when I feel like carrying one of the several guns for which I do not have an OWB rig.

^^ This is why I love this board! Thanks MedWheeler. please keep 'em coming guys and gals!

I've tried most of the big names in kydex. The Dale Fricke Gideon Elite is my favorite OWB holster by far. I wear mine nearly every day.

I'm with you, Gator. I must have close to ten IWB holsters, which I gave a fair trial to, and none are as comfortable/convenient to wear as my original OWB purchase for both my carry guns, a Ruger KLCR and a Kahr CM9. the holster is a Mitch Rosen Pancake Express Line for $75.00 each. Purchased the one for the Ruger at "rugerstore", and the Kahr through MR's site. Quality, exact fit and retention, close to body hold. I actually wear it cross-draw and it works perfectly, and very concealable. Give them a look.

I have several simply rugged sourdoughs and cudas that work very well. Any quality leather or even kydex high ride pancake style holster will work with a long enough shirt.

I simply can't bear an IWB holster. I use a Kydex belt holster and wear a vest/jacket. I'm really not concerned that I look like a grumpy old guy wearing a vest to conceal a big honkin pistol.

One of my favorite styles. Throw away the IWB belt clip and thread it on whatever side of your belt you want, slide you pistol in. Enjoy a comfortable carry.

For OWB carry you sometimes have to find a style that works well for your body, style of dress, type of pistol and several other factors.

The following is just based on my experience as a holster buyer and maker for a lot of years..

Pancake holsters are probably the best for concealment because they wrap the pistol around your hip and do a great job of breaking the buldge, similar to an IWB. They are not as friendly to certain body types and are generally much larger to facilitate belt loops on either side of the pistol.

Slide holsters are very light weight, very low profile but tend to let the pistol flop a little more and cannot pull the butt into your hip as well. They are very comfortable because of the flop but generally need a better concealment garment. They also do not spread the weight as well as a two loop system, so bigger pistols need a better belt.

An Askins type holster is a compromise between the slide and the pancake. It does not wrap around the front of the pistol the way a pancake does, so you have a little buldge to contend with, but the rear belt loop pulls the grip into your hip and spreads the weight better than a slide.

There are a ton of great choices out there and everyone has their favorites and you may find that you like a pancake for one gun but an Askins style for another. If you want to email me a torso shot and let me know what you want to carry I'm happy to make some suggestions based on what my other customers have done.

I realize you are a holster maker, but when I think of a "slide" holster, this is what I think of.

These are basically pancakes that don't cover the entire muzzle. I would think they would ride the same as a pancake, with little "flop" and pull the grip in close to the body just as well as a pancake. Of course you could mean something else when you say "slide" holster.
