I filed down some parts of the trigger (on an AR) to smooth out the edges which were catching my finger. The black coating is gone and the metal is revealed.

Should I just get a bluing kit and paint over it? I saw a bluing kit at the LGS. Not sure if that is what it is used for.

I also thought about getting some touch-up paint from the auto shop (?)

i am just worried about rust. Not really worried about looks. Well I guess the tiny bit of silvery metal could be bad for reflection (maybe).

I have never found cold blue to be durable. I think it will wear off the first time you go shooting.

My first thought is just ignore it if you are just talking about breaking the sharp edges and let the oils and sweat from your body tarnish the bare metal.

The other choice would be to remove the trigger, degrease it and paint using low gloss engine paint.

Either way remember your gun is going to have finish wear on other parts as you use it.

I have used cold blueing on a barrell and some other parts and it has held up very well. That said it was not the trigger.

I use something called "super blue".it seems to hold up pretty good. Its ok for small touch ups but i wouldnt try and blue an entire gun with it.
