I have three springs here that I need to get duplicates of. The first one is probably a standard coil spring (standard in that supplies of this probably exist already):

The next one is a torsion spring for a crossbow trigger and I assume this will have to be made using my sample as a template:

The last one is another torsion spring, this one is for the safety lever on the same crossbow:

I have had one quote drawn up here in the UK and they are quoting me £155 for 25 duplicates of each spring

There has to be a cheaper option somewhere. Not so worried about the coil spring, but the torsion springs are important. Any companies in the US that you recommend?

I'll have to investigate this for the torsion springs. Will still need to buy the coil spring though...

You can make the coil spring with the same music wire. Just wind the wire around something a bit smaller than what you want it to be when it's done. Be mindful of wire diameter, turn count and turn spacing.

Not sure how much it would cost but I work for a spring company. You can call them and ask. I know they are more than capable of making them all, I just don't know how much they would charge. Give them a try. Hope that helps.

Thanks Taurus, I will try that. The coil spring has to be bought, it has a pitch and compression resistance that I don't feel I could duplicate by hand winding.

Dumb question, but how about the maker of the crossbow? Or is it home-made?

You might try a machine shop. This example is from the opposite side of the Pond - a friend had a nice H&H Royal and had a mainleaf spring break - H&H said $300 just to look at the gun and $125 for a spring. He found a machine shop who made a duplicate of his spring - heat treated and all - for $65.00

Sometimes going outside the gun industry is a lot better

If my math is correct and the conversion of 1.6124 dollars to the pound and you are talking about 75 springs for about $250 that comes to about $3.33 per spring.

For a small order like that I don't know if you would beat that by buying in the US and shipping them to you.

My experience in specing out and buying springs for small orders would have me looking for more shops in the spring business or even, as mentioned above, make them your self. I've done that and it's not all that hard if you get the right tools and I don't believe they are all that expensive. Buy the tools and the spring stock and now how much is the difference in the cost to just purchase the springs outright?

Three bucks +/- for a custom made spring is not all that bad if you consider time, labor, jig set-up and shipping.

Good luck on your project.

The issue is that I only really want 3 spares of each, maybe 5 max. The other 20 would be wasted (for each spring).
I will look into the wire bender...

Thanks 1SOW

I contacted Lee Spring and they have something very similar in stock, will cost me less than £30 for 20 pieces delivered! (coil spring)
