Using regular foster type slugs has anyone done or know of a test comparing accuracy at say 50yds and 100yds with a smooth bore vs a rifled choke? If so what happened?
Generally speaking using a rifled choke tube in my 870 with foster slugs has tightened up the groups with every slug I have tried. 21 inch rifle sighted smooth bore rem choke barrel.
my first shotgun was a NEF pardener 12g smooth bore mod. choke, 28 inch barrel with a bead sight i recall. i would shoot 3" remington sluggers and get terrible groups. it was a while ago but lets say it was something like 5" to 8" at distance. i handed the gun off and was able to afford a remington 870 tactical with xs ghost ring sights 18.5" smooth barrel and an extended remington factory rifled rem choke. i was able to clover the 3" sluggers at nearly the same distance!
as far as the question goes. was it the sights that allowed me to shoot better or the choke or a combination of both? probably both.
