What is your favorite bargain price handgun?

Surplus S&W Model 1917 .45ACP revolver, a gun show find at less than $200.

dollar for dollar and round for round, Heritage Rough Rider.

I once bought a 6" blue N-frame Smith for $175....

During the period when everyone had to have a wonder 9 in this part of the woods-we were/are way behind the curve-found a 6" Mod 624 at Gander for $265 about 2005. Very tight and a good shooter. About two months later there was a S&W mod 17 for $235. That came home with me also.

As for S&W model 10's a former military competition shooter started shooting bullseye at our range in the late 70's and he won many matches with a bull barrel .38.

My best "bargain gun" as far as handguns go has to be my TZ99. Paid $250 for it, sold it for a profit, and bought it back for $250. Never failed to shoot, function, or hit point of aim at 10yds, with ANY 9mm ammo.

A bit over a year ago I bought them from Buds Gun Shop,,,
I paid $265 apiece for the guns and they perform wonderfully for me.

For budget revolvers people tend to go towards Taurus,,,
My personal experience with taurus revolvers has been terrible.

When someone asks me about low cost revolvers,,,
I point them towards Charter Arms.

My lady friend has a 2" Undercover in .38 Special,,,
When she first bought the gun the trigger was heavy and gritty,,,
about the time her first 500 rounds were gone the trigger had smoothed out.

Later she bought a 4" Target Pathfinder in .22 LR,,,
She experienced the same heavy/gritty trigger as before.

By the time she was through her first 550 round bulk pack of ammo,,,
The trigger had smoothed out quite a bit just like her Undercover.

I've shot the .22 Pathfinder quite a bit,,,
It really is a fine little handgun.

It's not anywhere as "nice" as my S&W Model 18,,,
But then again it doesn't cost over $600 dollars either.

I would have to say my favorite bargain priced shooter would be my Browning Hi-Power MK.II. I remember seeing a magazine article on it and decided that this was the Hi-Power for me. On my day off I went to a gun distributor who also had a small retail storefront operation attached to their warehouse. Here they sold guns, ammuntion, and accessories to the general public for less than retail price but somewhat more than dealer cost. I figured if anybody had this gun in stock it would be them.

Sure enough they had it, and what was truly amazing was that they sold it to me at dealer cost! No other mark-up; it was simply dealer cost and tax. I couldn't believe it! I don't think I ever filled out a form and paid as quickly for a gun as I did for that one. I left there with my new Hi-Power and it's been a true bargain favorite ever since.

I actually got my almost new S&W pre-lock 686 for a really good price a number of years ago, because the empties would not eject properly. Turns out there was a burr on the edge of one of the chambers. Took all of two seconds with a needle file to fix it right up!

FEG HiPowers. Get them for less than $250 and you have a pistol that can do it all with common 9mm ammo. Toks and Mak ammo is expensive and not readily available.

Taurus 44 mag tracker. Versatile.

Rock Island Armory. Everything they make is a bargain.

Oops, I realized I lost track of the topic when I posted earlier, after reading the other posts. My favorite bargain gun would definitely be my IJ-17-18AH Makarov. It cost me $275 and includes the hard to find and expensive 12 round magazine. The 12 rnd mags themselves are about $90.

Oh, what the heck. I'll throw in my Bersa Thunder .380 DLX. It's crazy accurate, reliable and fun all for under $300. Too bad I can't say the same for the .380 ammo.
