I am very interested in picking up a DA .22 revolver and would love to hear from experienced owners/users. The ability to switch from 22LR & 22WMR would be pretty cool if it really works.

My only experience with a Taurus .22 Tracker revolver, is my old man's 9 shot one.

It is about to undergo it's 4th trip back to Taurus, for the EXACT same problem. It keeps locking up between shots in DA. Literally we did not manage to make it through 2 cylinders without repeating the same issue from the first, second, and third attempt to repair. Each time returned with a report that they tuned it and function tested it. (lies, the issue is so easily repeatable that there is no possible way they could be missing it!)

Friend carries an older Taurus .357, it has a great trigger and has never had a single reliability issue. Even though one side is dissolved by years of waistband carry.

Good luck!

I'm thinking hard about a 922 too. Handled a 22lr-only Tracker at Sportsman's today in fact. I'd like to hear ratings from owners of Taurus 22 Tracker revolvers particularly and all their revolvers generally too.

I have a 22lr Tracker, 6 inch barrel. Haven't had a bit of trouble out of it. Have more than 1500 through it. Accurate and fun.

Mostly shoot cheap Wally World Federals. It seems to get along with that ammo.

No 22 mags Need my Ruger for that,

Oh,yes. I do own a Taurus 94 in .22lrf, a 941 in .22WRM,and a 990 in .22lrf.

All are great guns and giving sterling service.

I've had a Tracker for a couple of years. Don't know the model number, but it only shoots .22LR. I've never had any trouble with it, though I wish I'd gotten the 4-inch barrel instead of the 6-inch. I converted the front sight to a Patridge style and use the gun mainly for informal bullseye shooting.

I had a 922 Tracker with 6 inch barrel.
Very accurate.
Needed service after about 300 rounds, the firing pin spring collapsed, so the cylinder would only advance if you tipped the muzzle straight up.
Maybe I'm overly intolerant, but I sold it. 6 week turnaround on the repair, and the fact that it needed repair when it was almost new soured me.
I believe Taurus has improved their product, but their service I'm not so sure of.
Contrast that to Armscor turning my 1911(optional work, not a repair) around in 6 days!

You're most welcome.

The Ruger SP-101 also looks like a good bet as well.

I'm also kind of partial to Ruger as well.

If you can actually find one of those and give the 992,990,970 or the 94 a try, please do.

The 990 I have is very accurate and cutting very small clusters at 25 yards. All of rounds go into the black or the bullseye rimfire target.

I've got a 4" barrel 992. Cylinder switch from .22LR to .22WMR is super simple and takes about 10 seconds. I have a few hundred rounds through mine and have decided it's a keeper. Heavier than my Model 66 .357 Magnum, so there is virtually no recoil even with the .22 mag. Very accurate. My only complaint about it is how tight it was out of the box. It's loosened up with round count, but the DA trigger is still stiff.

I purchased the 992 about 10 days ago. I've had it to the range 3-times, putting about 215 .22LR rounds and 54 .22WMR rounds through it. And I've been very, very happy. The accuracy is superb, even double action. It's so easy to switch from .22LR and .22WMR. The only issue has been sticky extraction on a few cylinders on day two, but today's range session was problem free.

So far, the 992 is exceeding my expectations. Heck, I even like cleaning it.

Can't speak to the 992, but I have had a 990 with a 4" barrel fror a couple of years. Well over 1000 rounds through it. It had to go to Taurus almost immediately because the cylinder would lock up after about 2 cylinders (insufficient cylinder gap). No problems since, but it lacks fit and finish. The star wheel looks like it was chewed into existance by a pack of angry rats. But, it is actually really accurate, suprisingly so. I shoot it more than anything else I own. A .22 DA revolver is a blast to shoot!

That said, given the affection I have developed for .22 DA revolvers, I am definitely in the market for something nicer. I would buy a .22 built on the Ruger GP frame in a heartbeat, but since that doesn't exist I am probably going to end up getting either a S&W 617, or an earlier K-22 or model 17 if I can find one (a diamondback would be my grail gun...) Anyway, for me, the 990 has been very worth owning, and quite accurate, but could be a lot nicer. They are a good value if you get a good one, but definitely a case of getting what you pay for. Since QC at Taurus seems to be lacking, be sure to inspect the one you are purchasing carefully, and don't hesitate to reject a substandard example, you will be doing yourself a favor.
