Here's an activism thought: VOTE! Better yet; vote, then get someone else to vote also. Round them up and take them to vote. Ask all the like-minded people you know if they vote. I'm sure this has been done before, and if it isn't specific enough I apologize. I hope this call to action fits here.

We have vote-by-mail here. We got our ballots yesterday, so I just voted. I realize most people won't be voting for a couple weeks but I thought I'd get this started early for those of us that start now.

I don't want to tell anyone how to vote or get into political arguments on this thread. If you are a liberal and love Mr. O and are going to vote for him because you love your other issues more than RKBA- fine, just please don't post about it here. If Mitt isn't conservative enough for you and you're going third party- fine, but please don't post it here. If you despise the incumbent or anyone else for whatever reason- vote as you see fit but please don't comment about it here.

I know I can't tell anyone how to post any more than I can tell them how to vote, but it would be nice to have a simple thread in Activism to encourage people to get out the vote, without a bunch of arguing, politics, and a thread lock. Voting is kind of the ultimate activism in a democracy.

I voted! Who's next?

Just voting all by itself isn't a plan to support RKBA.

What can we do to get more people who support RKBA to vote?

What can we do to get more people who support RKBA to think of RKBA in all the open questions this time? Remember that we vote for school board, city council, state legislature and Congress this time as well as POTUS and that having every level of government realize that WE, the RKBA advocates, vote for them and their budgets is a very powerful message.

Post your name and number at every gun shop and offer to take people to the polling places.

Post on Craigslist or Armslist or ... that you'll drive people to the polling places.

Good idea about offering rides to go vote.
I tell my friends to go vote, talk to people at the range, organize events on facebook(yeah at least i try), and even call people to make sure they are voting regardless of which side they would vote on(even though there is always a third party).

I also hand out flyers and talk to people at gun shows.

My grandpa always said , "if you don't like em vote em out!"

Just remember, you can take a person to the polls, but you can't make him pull the pro-2A lever. Once there, he will vote however he sees fit, just as he should.

Here's a specific challenge that everyone can do: call at least five people you know and encourage them to vote.

Offer to drive. Take the day off work if you can. It's that important. You would be surprised at how many people forget or just don't bother. If we would all do this, and ask them to call five people they know, we could have real results. This is basic grassroots activism.

Absolutely true, but you sure don't have to call people that you think are likely to vote the other way. This is not about blindly encouraging the voting masses to do their civic duty; this is about winning. You are under no ethical obligation to ask someone to vote who is going to vote against you. Our only ethical obligation is to play by the rules, which is more than the other side does.

Do this during the early election period and it will give you many more reduced stress opportunities.

By this time in the cycle almost everybody is sick to death of phone calls, junk in the mailbox, saturation TV ads, saturation radio ads, full page newspaper ads, editorials, billboards, signs on every corner, yada, yada, yada.

I stop answering the phones, throw 90% of my mailbox contents in the trash, do not watch TV or listen to the radio, skim the papers for only the news I want to read about (if any) a month before the election.

The last thing I am going to do is bug somebody else on something I'm sick of getting bugged about already.

But that is just me.

Dan

Is it ethical to have increased participation in the democratic proceedings of our nation? Is it ethical to deprive the vote from those who are legally eligible?

I find the best way to encourage people to support gun rights or any issue, is to ask questions. Ask them common sense questions and get them to think a little bit about why they think the way they do. Plant a seed of doubt in their mind about what they think the status quo is. And why they default to voting for what the media encourages.

Encouraging people to vote is a great thing. Or pick a dozen of your liberal anti gun friends and offer (individually) to not vote along with them because you will just end up canceling each other out. ;)

How in the heck am I depriving anyone of anything by only contacting those likely to vote pro-rkba???? I hope you're joking! That is just about the most ridiculous thing I've heard lately. If Aunt Mildred hates guns because they are SCARY, do you really feel the need to call and remind her to vote against you? Whether she votes or not is up to her; you're not depriving her of anything by not calling her.

This whole thing really looks like it may hinge on voter turnout, whoever has the best ground game. Every single vote just might count. It really is that important. The other side knows this very well, and they are not holding back.

Thank you to those with constructive ideas.

To be honest, I just intended this to be a simple thread encouraging people to get out and vote, and get others to do the same. I'm a bit discouraged to see the negativity. I guess I should have remembered from four years ago that there is a sizable contingent of Obama voters on this forum that actively discourage this sort of thing. I've seen enough crazy statement online to believe that there are many people out there trying their hardest to suppress the "gun vote" through misinformation and discouragement.

HSO, I apologize for this thread. I meant well, but guess this isn't an effective form of activism here. I certainly don't want it to degenerate into arguing, so please lock or delete as you see fit. Thank you.
