Vote thread

Here's an activism thought: VOTE! Better yet; vote, then get someone else to vote also. Round them up and take them to vote. Ask all the like-minded people you know if they vote. I'm sure this has been done before, and if it isn't specific enough I apologize. I hope this call to action fits here.

We have vote-by-mail here. We got our ballots yesterday, so I just voted. I realize most people won't be voting for a couple weeks but I thought I'd get this started early for those of us that start now.

I don't want to tell anyone how to vote or get into political arguments on this thread. If you are a liberal and love Mr. O and are going to vote for him because you love your other issues more than RKBA- fine, just please don't post about it here. If Mitt isn't conservative enough for you and you're going third party- fine, but please don't post it here. If you despise the incumbent or anyone else for whatever reason- vote as you see fit but please don't comment about it here.

I know I can't tell anyone how to post any more than I can tell them how to vote, but it would be nice to have a simple thread in Activism to encourage people to get out the vote, without a bunch of arguing, politics, and a thread lock. Voting is kind of the ultimate activism in a democracy.

Here's a specific challenge that everyone can do: call at least five people you know and encourage them to vote.

Offer to drive. Take the day off work if you can. It's that important. You would be surprised at how many people forget or just don't bother. If we would all do this, and ask them to call five people they know, we could have real results. This is basic grassroots activism.

Absolutely true, but you sure don't have to call people that you think are likely to vote the other way. This is not about blindly encouraging the voting masses to do their civic duty; this is about winning. You are under no ethical obligation to ask someone to vote who is going to vote against you. Our only ethical obligation is to play by the rules, which is more than the other side does.

Is it ethical to deprive the vote from those who are legally eligible?

How in the heck am I depriving anyone of anything by only contacting those likely to vote pro-rkba???? I hope you're joking! That is just about the most ridiculous thing I've heard lately. If Aunt Mildred hates guns because they are SCARY, do you really feel the need to call and remind her to vote against you? Whether she votes or not is up to her; you're not depriving her of anything by not calling her.

This whole thing really looks like it may hinge on voter turnout, whoever has the best ground game. Every single vote just might count. It really is that important. The other side knows this very well, and they are not holding back.

To be honest, I just intended this to be a simple thread encouraging people to get out and vote, and get others to do the same. I'm a bit discouraged to see the negativity. I guess I should have remembered from four years ago that there is a sizable contingent of Obama voters on this forum that actively discourage this sort of thing. I've seen enough crazy statement online to believe that there are many people out there trying their hardest to suppress the "gun vote" through misinformation and discouragement.
