I won a S&W i-Bolt for being a customer of a new business in town. It is brand new, never fired. I don't want it, not looking for a 30.06.

Would you think it'd be easier/better to sell as-in, NIB, or throw a cheap Simmons/etc scope on, zero it, then sell it like that?

I'm not looking to get a whole lot, as it was free to me haha, but what would probably work the best?

You'd certainly come out ahead selling a NIB gun rather than buying a new cheap scope to sell make a used gun with a used cheap scope.

that is what i'm thinking, but Abilene (seems to) has the worst gun market in TX. I'm thinking maybe something that is ready to go might have more interest?

If I had an old scope laying around that I didn't want I might offer to throw it in with the deal, but I wouldn't mount it. It would make it a little harder to sell the gun as new, with an old used scope on it. I would think mounting a scope would make it harder to sell, or reduce the price.

If the local market is slow, why not just post it for sale on here (or wherever) and get a much wider market. Selling it as a NIB rifle is going to be more appealing to the general buyer for sure.

Gift--- horse-- mouth

Maybe take it to a shop and trade it for something you do want. They had a big recall on I bolts a couple years back. They are not so great, so unloading it might be a chore...

Ive been a member of Abilene Gun Club before in the 1990s. I miss the gun range near Ft Phantom Lake.

I won a 700 BDL in .25-06 once. Already had my grandpa's .257 Roberts with similar ballistics and 1/2 MOA accuracy, ain't selling THAT, so I took it to a few gun shops and worked a swap for what I had been jonesin' for, a stainless M7 in .308.

If you can't get what ya want, you might try working a trade for something you like for it. Just a thought.

Explain u won it and unfired and has new gun smell and sell that way. Another approach might be trade in at local gun shop for something u want.

I concur. Leave the rifle in the box. Don't chance scratching it while mounting a scope.

Since you have zero dollars in it, you might just go to your LGS and consider trading it straight up for a "fun gun" you normally wouldn't have considered, like a fancy .22, coach gun, etc. Figure they'll give you half of MSRP but again, you got it for free.

When people sell a used gun with $400 of "extras" put into it, they want to sell it for the original price + only $300 with the extras. That's madness. Not many will be interested in YOUR scope. Plus, I've shot many rifles belonging to other people that were "sighted in" at random distances worthless to me. I'm thinking you'll get about the same $ either way, which means you should sell it NIB.

If you are a member of a hunting or shooting type organization, you might consider donating it for auction and getting a nice tax write off. But whatever you do, it should be NIB.

Technically it is not NIB. Don't shoot it. Forget about the scope & zeroing. You'll never recoup your money and will actually lose money from firing it.

Sell it as un-fired with an explanation that you'd won it. Heck, if it werent' for me just buying a Savage 110 in 30-06, I'd make you an offer. You'd probably fetch $250-$275 quickly or a little closer to $300 if you'd wait it out.

The I-bolt had a recall in 2007 (i think) for a problem with the bolt, they only recalled about 600 rifles. The barrel a is Thompson/Center and not for sure about the receiver, the two i handled in 2010 at LGS seemed very well made for the price, just under $400.-. I wonder if you know how versatile the 06 is, you can use it for a small game or a 1000 yard paper puncher, wish i lived close, i would take it off your hands.

To all those who've asked- i do have it listed on here, and i'm willing to ship (at buyer's expense) via UPS.

For once, i'd rather have $$ than another gun, as there is some non-gun stuff i want badly right now haha.
