Looking for a good single shot gun that's not to expensive. It seems like it'll be between H&R, Rossi, or New England. I would be using this as a woods gun for squirrel, rabbit, snakes, etc. with bird shot and anything larger maybe even white tail with slugs. Rossi has cheaper prices but I wonder if that means anything as far as quality or accuracy. Although they seem like the same gun to me just different brand names. Does anyone have any opinion as to which I should choose? Perhaps someone who has shot more than one brand. I plan on buying a 12 ga. if that helps anything. Appreciate yalls input.

H&R IS New England Arms. They changed the name a couple of times, haven't kept up with the details, but same gun, same manufacturer. Can't go wrong with one, I can tell ya that. I have a 10 gauge turkey gun that I actually use for goose hunting. VERY tight and strong gun and patterns very well.

I bought my daughter a 20 gauge H&R, was a mistake. Little toot was so light, it kicked too hard for her and she preferred my gas gun, a Winchester 1400 in 12 gauge, because it had much less felt recoil. The 12 is gonna be a test of our recoil tolerance. :D

The 10 weighs 9 lbs. You can get a similar 12 gauge rifled barrel slug gun, same as my 10, the heavy frame. The 10 has a heavier duty frame than all the other H&Rs. The gun would only be good for deer, though. You won't be able to put a smaller gauge barrel on that gun, either, as the frame differs in dimension from the smaller bores.

The Rossi is a good little gun. Friend of mine has a combo .410/.22LR, shoots very well.

I have a NEF single shot 20 gauge not a bad gun fun for clays but on occasion the shells will get stuck and need to be poked out mostly noticed this with winchester cheapo ammo. I think the Gun was only $115. I also have a Ithica M66 single shot 12 gauge I really like it with the lever to break the action and that was only $75 - used of course.
