Update

I just left Dave's. He was brought home this evening. I asked if he had a message for the board.

Dave says he's in no pain. Dave says he's enjoyed the time with you, and maybe he'll see you again on a trail or beside a stream.

As said before, the ultimate gentleman.

Prayer & smoke

I pray that strength is given to all so his passing is a good one.

Yes a good death is all one can pray for as we all pass on.

Meet your maker with a smile and I bless all whom you have touched and been loved by.

Take care, Dave. You're in my thoughts. Thanks for all you've done here to help me and others. I'll see you down the road.

Please let Dave know that I have learned a lot from the things he has written, and particular enjoyed reading his "Fighting Shotguns" thread, on more than one occasion.
Thank you Dave, I hope the rest of your days are happy ones.

Dave,
we will never meet but I have so enjoyed you're writings, opinions, and advice.

All the best to you and yours.

That's terrible. I hope that the prognosis is wrong and that Dave still has many years left. His posts have always left me with the impression that he's a knowledgeable and well-mannered guy.

Aw man. Dave is such a stud.

He will be in our prayers.
This is Dave's wife. He is very ill right now and sleeping a lot. I wanted you to know that the last thing he asked for before his trip to the hospital was your book "Monster Hunter Legion" which I ordered for him on Amazon.com overnight and he sat down and read it cover to cover, enjoying it immensely. Probably one of the last things he's done that took a lot of concentration. He admired you and your writing very much.

To everyone on this board: Dave has been enriched by being a part of your talks and sharing his expertise and wisdom has been a pleasure and a privilege for him. I will read these comments to him.

Rachel,

Your husband has taught all of us many things over the years. I really do appreciate everything that he has done. Take care of him and yourself our thoughts and prayers will be with you.

Though I did not know him, I would like to send a prayer to him and his family as I know personally what they are going through. May God be with you Dave.

When we lose those we love, whether it's family, friends or pets, words are never enough to fill the void that's left behind, but words can surely help to ease some of the pain.

A few lines from William Wordsworth's poem "Michael" have helped me over the years ... I hope they might bring some comfort to Dave and his family.

"There is comfort in the strength of love.
It makes a thing endurable,
Which else would overset the brain, or break the heart
".

Thanks Dave ... you are in my thoughts.

Been looking through his old posts. His writing was simple, direct and always informative. He never bragged or badgered. He was deeply knowledgeable and a fine gentleman. I remember being pretty surprised to hear he'd been playing Skyrim last year. Would have liked to have met him.

He also gave this advice to someone who'd lost a family member, and seems appropriate now: "Let the healing come in its own time..."
