Note: This is The High Road and not some school yard where twisting anyone's name into some "cute" slur will be tolerated. It is simpleminded and destroys the seriousness of the issue.

It is NEVER too soon to put elected officials on notice and to remind them periodically that the people who elected them have expectations for their voting in state Legislatures or the U.S. Congress and that the voter will not tolerate any degradation of our right to keep and bear arms. To forget that is to forget that they can be replaced next election.

Contact your US Senators about supporting this bill to help try to stop the EPA from having any say in the matter. It is supposed to be up for vote next week.

The Sportsmen's Act of 2012." S. 3525 is an essential piece of legislation focused on the expansion and enhancement of hunting, recreational fishing and shooting on federal public land. This bill is a compilation of 19 bipartisan bills important to the sportsmen's community. In addition to promoting land access, the bill would amend the "Toxic Substances Control Act" to prevent this and future administrations from using the Environmental Protection Agency to eliminate the right of hunters, shooters and anglers to use traditional ammunition and fishing tackle. The bill would amend the law to clarify that the EPA does not have the authority to regulate shot, bullets or sport fishing equipment.

Those are already exempt under the 40 CFR regs so the "Sportsman's Act of 2012" doesn't serve much real purpose. It is primarily a feel good duplication of the existing law. It has come about because some extremist organizations have tried to force removal of lead based ammunition from hunting using TSCA. They've tried twice and failed twice because EPA has told them both times that they do not have authority to regulate bullets and sinkers because they are specifically exempted from environmental regulation.
