San Antonio, Texas!
The fine folks of Premier Gun Shows out of Ft Worth are hosting a gun show at the North Austin Event Center, 10601 North Lamar Blvd, on 1-2 December 2012.

Premier has built their San Antonio show into one of the best in the state, and hope to do the same in Austin.

The hours will be Saturday 9 am – 5 pm and Sunday 10 am – 4 pm, and admission is $8 (children under 12 and uniformed peace officers get in free). Parking is free.

Subscribe to their Email Newsletter and receive a printable $1 off coupon.

We've been attending their SA show for the past year and can attest than Tim and Michelle Finucane, as well as everyone else at Premier, work hard to put on an event that is enjoyed by all. We will be driving up to support this new show in Austin (plans are to hold it again 9-10 and 13-14 April 2013), and hopefully there will be as good of a turnout as there is in San Antonio.

Hopefully we'll see you at the show!

Cheers! M2

Thanks for the update. I wonder how this will compare to the Saxet Gun show at the conventions center...that one is Dec 15-16.

Are you sure of the location? Saxet had to give it up because the landlord got pressured by the police for supposed illegal private deals in the parking lot. Deals of course which NEVER resulted in any arrests much less convictions. However the landlord just didn't want the political hassle.

That's what they've got on their website...

Austin Gun Show

As for how it will compare with SAXET, down here in SA the Premier show is much better. It has a lot more tables (1000-1200 vs 800), wider aisles, and more vendors that SAXET doesn't have.

Don't get me wrong, we pretty much go to the SA SAXET show every month; but the Premier show is the one that I usually find more interesting stuff at!

As for how it will do in Austin, that has yet to be seen. I know the promoter has more connections throughout the state having sponsored shows all over it, and they are larger than SAXET. But that area has always been a tough location for gun shows, folks either head up to the Ft Hood area or down here to SA...

Cheers! M2

I just emailed them for a table. I like the folks at Saxet, but I hate that building so I may switch. I'm afraid though that this show is going to suffer from a lack of marketing, but I hope not.

I'll be going and bringing a friend. Living in northwest austin, I'm hoping this show becomes a regular thing. I love the San Antonio show but can't make it most of the time.

I am trying to get word out about this show via various forums (here, Texas Gun Talk, and several others). Tim and Michelle are great folks, and are working hard to make this show a success which is why we will be driving up from SA to support them.

This can be a 'win-win' scenario for the firearms community up in Austin, SAXET has tried hard to reinstate shows there after the above-mentioned fiasco of a few years ago where the Austin PD and ATF illegally tried to stop private sales from happening both in the venue and out in the parking lot (more on the story here). Rumor was that the promoter gave in to the pressure despite claims in the media otherwise.

Tim and Michelle are the kind of folks that will do anything and everything to keep everybody happy, and I wish them all the success in this endeavor. It would help if people showed up to support them!

Cheers! M2

FWIW - I got a nearly instantaneous reply to my table inquiry. They are sold out so that bodes well for the show even if bad for me. Now, let's just hope they can make the public aware. Saxet does radio ads the week before. Maybe they have something like that in the works. I'll for sure go and check it out.

They have a big highway banner if your getting on 183 southbound lakeline, lakecreek entrance. Across the Highway from the new HEB PLUS

Good, I've been house bound for a few days and now so haven't seen anything.

Anyone up for breakfast before the show on Saturday? It's a tradition before gun shows here in SA, would be nice if some of us could meet up.

I don't know that area very well, so recommendations on good place to eat nearby would be gratefully appreciated!

Cheers! M2

They moved the Advertisement on 183 on the Northbound side facing the 183 southside traffic lanes just before Oak Knoll. This is the first advertisement I have seen for a gun show here in Austin. Saxet usually has a few commercial the week of the show but no public displays though. I'll be there with a Brand New 617 4" for sale I'll take 600.00 for THR members. I have two and this one hasn't been fired just dont need two and want a CZ 455 Varmint.

I look forward to checking it out.

Glad to have a place that doesn't charge for parking.

(that is a REALLY annoying aspect of SAXET)

For a typically "Austin" breakfast, you should stop by Kerbey Lane Cafe, Magnolia Cafe, or Juan in a Million. Kerbey Lane is probably best from a location standpoint. For something a bit quicker, there is a Torchy's Tacos not far from there.

Had an email conversation with Tim, one of the owners of the gun show.

He is having some off duty APD officers patrol the parking lot during the show so as to maintain security. (the Crockett Center is not in the best neighborhood)

Has ads scheduled for KLBJ AM and in the Statesman.

Let's hope he has a great show.

For those who have not been to a show in that location get there early if you want to park. The building is shared with a Mexican indoor flea market. The parking lost is packed full by about 9am.

Sounds interesting. For a time there was another gun show held at a former Target store off I-35, but it was pathetic - small, and more junk like Sham-Wows and miracle motor oil than guns.

I know where the N. Lamar location is (I was there when an exhibitor had an ND a few years back  ) and if tables are sold out, it should be decent. ($8 admission is a little high.)

Lately, I haven't had much luck at the Saxet show at the Expo Center . . . only major thing I ever found was an E-series S&W1911 SC. Several times I left empty-handed. (Didn't like paying to park either.)

If I am not mistaken, the show at the old Target was a Texas Gun Shows event. I went to one a few years back, it was pathetic just as you described. I was in and out of there in less than 15 minutes. They host a show up on the NE part of San Antonio at the Live Oak Civic Center, last time I went to it was a couple of years ago as well and it was equally horrible. About the only show they've ever hosted that was halfway decent was down in Floresville, but it's been a year or so since we've been to it and I don't think it's doing well either! The only reason we go is that I knew some folks that live down that way, and it's always good to catch up with old friends!

And jdh, thanks for the info. At the SAXET shows down here in SA we arrive an hour before the doors open because there is an IHOP within walking distance. We'll have to factor that into our plans.

Guillermo, Tim and Michelle are the owners of Premier Gun Shows, two of the best folks you could ever meet. Their entire crew are great people as well, they work their butts off to make their show here in SA a success. Sorry you can make it, no chance of squeezing in the show before the self-defense class?

hmphargh, appreciate the breakfast recommendations! Anyone planning on eating before the show on Saturday and have a preference? Would be nice to meet a few of you when we're up for the show!

Cheers! M2

By that time there will be folks leaving or going to lunch. Cruise through the parking lot and keep your eyes open for back up lights.
