Hi friends. I'm going to be buying a new 9mm in a few weeks and was looking for some suggestions on what to buy. Please no Beretta or Ruger suggestions as I've already researched the heck out of them and have owned both with no complaints. I'm looking for something heavy and durable (I know I already discounted two of the best suggestions) and can hold 15+ rds. Also under $650 would be helpful. Thanks for your suggestions they are much appreciated.

Another vote for the CZ75. Get the SA model if you can find one.

I love mine. It's kinda tricked out, though.

Love the Springfield XD9 service model. Mine is from 2008 before the XDM series. Never failed with any ammo. That is my recommendation.

Have handled (but never shot) CZs...they do feel quite good in the hand.

Had a SIG 226 -- accurate enough and soaked up recoil well. (Edit: Skylerbone just beat me to it.)

S&W 5906? I have a 6906 and like it a lot.

Stoeger Cougar 8000? (I know, it's just a Beretta in Stoeger clothing...)

Lotta good choices in 9mm under $650. My first thought is a Glock 17 or 19 with extended mag, but there are a lot of good choices out there.

S&W M&P you can't go wrong with the fit and feel.
There is a reason why the police departments all over America use these guns more than any other.
I like the Pro Series in 4 inch barrel, they come with night sights and a little better trigger.
I was a dyed in the wool Glock man till I shot an M&P for the first time about 3 months ago, now I'm a M&P fan.

CZ 75b, or CZ SP-01 if you want DA/SA or a CZ 75 SA if you want a SA only trigger.

I'm guessing since you said heavy and Durable you don't want any tupperware guns.

BA hahahaha.
Yea, I guess that all those bad guys have an immunity to Glocks and M&P's.
And the tupperware guns cant hang with the metal ones, NOT!!!!

However I have seen some ammo problems (Not Gun) that made a few crack.
But I think that the metal guns also would of busted up also if the same ammo was used in them.

A SIG P226.

A little outside of your target of $650 brand new but well worth it and easily meets your other criteria. Also usually not too hard to find a nice used or CPO P226.

Here is a picture of one of mine with a flush fit Megcgar 18 round magazine that usually go for around $23.

What is the mindset that cannot comprehend the question at hand?

Wait, I don't want to hijack this thread, but I think it is wildly inaccurate to say that police departments us the M&P more than any other. I think Glock pretty much has supremacy in that market. Not saying that an M&P is a poor choice, but like it or not, Glock is king of the LEO market to the best if my knowledge.

I've sworn off 9mm simply to reduce calibers i have to keep on hand, but these are my top picks, in somewhat random order:
Springfield XD
CZ75
S&W M&P
Sig Sauer P226
Browning Hi Power

My top pick is the XD, the others are in rnadom order. I'd probably be least likely to buy another Hi Power, though.

Springfield XD
CZ75
S&W M&P
Sig Sauer P226
Browning Hi Power

Durable: XD, CZ, M&P, 226, BHP.
Heavy: CZ 75, Sig P226, BHP.
Under $650: CZ, reconditioned P226, used BHP.
15+ capacity: CZ, P226.

Is this the point where someone tells the OP he should just buy a polymer single-stack sub-compact rimfire? So many threads are vague without caliber or price or any other prerequisite but this is not one of those. I own a number of 9mm handguns none of which meet the OP's criteria which is why I did not suggest them.

Or they agree that a 226 Sig would be a great choice, especially an older one with a rolled slide like the one pictured above. Great gun.

P226 is a great choice and so is a 5906/5904. I own both and they are great options. The are accurate and a pleasure to shoot

OP says:
I'm looking for something heavy
Responder says:
My first thought is a Glock 17 or 19
Do what? From other multiple posts around here regarding handgun choice the G Boyz frequently tout the light weight of the Austrian Auto as an advantage over other similar pistols. So which is it? Are they heavy or light? Or does the sentence itself explain the contradiction? "My first thought is a" Maybe that's just a conditioned response.
