The rush is on!!

SPPs have been gone locally for a couple of months. There are no 150gr .30 cal bullets of any type to be found. Certain types of powder (IMR-4064, AA#5, Varget) are gone. Maybe the LGSs are trying to avoid the year end inventory tax. I have no idea where we'll be in a month.

Oh God please don't take away my primers! I've only 200 or so left!
Sorry to say it might be too late to find any primers at a reasonable price or in any quantity. I have not let my primer supply go below several boxes (box = 1K) for a very long time. You never should have let your supply go that low, especially since what happened in 2008.

For many years I was lucky if I could afford to buy more then 3 or 4 boxes of 100 primers (Still that way) at a time, but a month ago I had a bit of left over cash after buying a home and moving and fixing up new (to me) home a bit (still needs a lot of fixing up) that I was able to buy a few sleeves/bricks/whatever they are called of 1,000 primers and some surplus powder.
Still no where near what I see some of you high volume shooters buying at one time several times a year, wish I could afford to do that even once every year or 3.

I wanted to restock some items in light of current events. One was SPPs. Most vendors are out of stock of these but seemed to have plenty of the others. I did find Federal Match primers at Midsouth. I goggled the SSP issue and saw that this has been going on a while. Maybe this simply results from the fact that most of the carry calibers use this size primer.

I did not have any problems finding my bullets or powder. Graf and free shipping!

I think I've been set for pistol for many months, now. Having recently picked up a couple colt rifles I have stocked up on most of that stuff and was done a few days ago for the most part(Must have had a funny feeling). I'm not likely to be a high-volume shooter, but it is hard to come up with a number for components that would be too much. ;)

I got caught by suprise in 2008 and ran low on small pistol primers. It took several months before I could get some at semi normal prices. The current run on everything seemed to take hold rather quickly. Not a political view, but Obama has been REALLY good for gun sales and related stuff. I would not be suprised if my grand children would read about the conspiercy between gun manufactures and the Obama admin in history class.

The stars aligned pretty ugly.. election, the mayans, Christmas and the Big Scare. Even with a lot of people pretty prepared, some things were not anticipated/foreseen.

Well you guys talked me into joining the bandwagon. I went to Powder Valley & ordered 10K.

When I first looked they had the SR but I had to get LRM but by the time I places my order I had to get magnum in both sizes.

Oh well. Hope my kids appreciate all the reloading supplies I've stocked up for there kids. ;-)

For the reloaders who went through the primer shortage after Clinton's first election, and especially for those reloaders who went through Obama's first post election buying spree, they should have been ready. I don't know what to say to them if they were not. They have had 2 1/2+ years of decent prices to stock up a little here and there.

I only feel sorry for the newcomers.

Buck up, this too shall pass. :)

Well I only had about 40K but didn't figure the price would do anything but go up so another 10K didn't seem like a bad idea. Like I said I don't think the grand kids will mind using them.

Not for me it isn't, this year I made 3 decent purchases. 1 @ local gun show for 14k in Tula 9x19 NATO primers, Powder Valley was 38 #'s of powder during Octobers free hazmat fee and Widners 17k in SR primers and 16 #'s of powder.

So I will be ok for a while with 34k primers & 67 #'s of rifle and pistol powders. I learned a lesson from the shortage in 2008 and some of 2009.:D

Stopped in Cabelas today to do some Christmas shopping. Most of the gun powder was gone, primers were down to individual packs (no bricks) and the line to buy guns was several hours long winding around the store. I was holding a can of 4227, and a salesman asked if I needed help. I said I knew what I wanted just trying to decide if I wanted to buy it today. He said "the way things are going, if you even think you might need it better buy it now". The president has unintentionally created a bonanza for gun stores.

figure the price would do anything but go up so another 10K didn't seem like a bad idea.
Buying 10K of primers is never a bad idea, unless the price is out of this world of course. So far so good with primer prices for the most part, the availability is just hit and miss right now.

I got caught in the last shortage.. I'm not overloaded but I have enough to last me a while!

This. I bought a boat load of stuff in 2008, and still have about half of it.

Guys, I certainly hope all of our grandkids gets to shoot up the supplies we have put back. That would make us all look down and smile. Smile that they would still have the freedom to shoot guns!! Merry Christmas to all!!

Best advice I can come up with is to stop reloading. I just wanna buy 1 or 2 boxes of primers (100) for this or that. I just wanna save a few bucks over high-cost factory ammo. I just wanna shoot H110 magnum loads that make my eyes jiggle. I just wanna handload my rifles for benchrest accuracy while hunting. Guess I should buy a bunch of .22 lr and shoot until I get tired... Just like the UK :)-0)

I don't even shoot 22LR any more because the cheep ammo is junk with no fire & bad accuracy. It is creeper to shoot my .223 Rem. with pulled bullets that will shoot groups half the size.

I started stocking "MY" shelves as supplies returned after the 2008 shortage .

Although I was`nt out , but I did`nt have a soft enuff cushion.

I`m good for this 1 , nice & fluffy !
