A neighbor of mine who has been procrastinating about buying her first gun called me and said it was time.
I responded that it is time for sure but a bad one. I told her of the lines and the panic but after doing some local homework, off I went with her and her husband.
I figured a revolver would be the best bet as she or her husband are not shooters and we all know the problems that a semi-auto pistol can bring to the inexperienced.
All that was left in the counter was a S&W 357, a rather large gun but I knew it would be pretty much a night table gun so I let them look at it.
The owner brought out a Taurus 22 auto with a break barrel and we looked at that for a while too. I told them that a 22 is not that effective for defense and the 357 would be to big if they ever chose to get a carry permit. They both really wanted a one size fits all.
The owners son overheard us and said, "wait here a minute". He disappeared to the back room and came out with a familiar looking case.
He presented a S&W Airweight 38 that was used but not at all much. There was hardly any track marks on the barrel from the cylinder lock and absolutely no scratches.
We had a winner. We took it into the range and they both shot it. We still had a winner.
I quietly asked the owner's son how come it wasn't being displayed and although I don't recall his exact words, I feel the meaning was he was saving it for someone who it really fit.
This is a far cry from some of the LGS stories we have read in the last few weeks. They were so grateful to me that they bought me an extra 30 round mag for my AR.
