I've seen the question about 10-round limit affecting carry in a couple of threads, but not one with a poll to go with it. While I am not assuming that a ban is going through in general, for the purpose of this thread, assume a ban on the manufacture or sale of magazines with a capacity of more than 10 rounds is put into place. How would this affect your carry?

The way I see it, there are six options, which are in the poll:
1) Already carry less, would not affect. For those who carry a compact .45, a sub-compact, a single-stack, or a revolver, a 10-round limit would have no effect.
2) Already have magazines, would not affect. For those who have enough "high capacity" magazines to last through the ban, the ban would have no effect.
3) Do not carry, would not affect. Some people just don't carry (or can't legally carry), so a ban wouldn't change that.
4) Would carry larger caliber. If the reason you chose 9mm for your S&W M&P is because it holds 17 rounds, and the .45 holds 10, with a limit in place you might opt for the .45.
5) Would carry smaller platform. If the reason you carry a full size instead of a compact is capacity, you may want to go from a G17/19 to a G26.
6) Would carry limited magazines in same platform. You might like the gun you have now, in terms of how it fits and how it shoots, but just not have a large stockpile of magazines. Purchasing more magazines going forward would have to be limited.

Like I said, I'm hoping the ban fails, and I'm going forward assuming it will. However, there is a chance we will have a restriction, and if it happens I'm already working in my head how I will deal with that, since I own pistols with >10 round capacity and not a whole lot of magazines. Personally, I think I'd opt for a larger caliber if a limit is put in place.

We already know what people did.

They carried limited capacity magazines if they bought a gun with them. Perhaps they had some standard capacity magazines or they purchased some during the ban. Guns were built around the 10 round limit (Glock 26 and others) and people bought those once they realized the benefits. Finally, others went with larger calibers, low capacity guns or stayed with such guns. Revolver guys continued carrying their walnut and steel guns.
The AWB's 10 round limit gave us:

1) A resurgence in the popularity of the 1911 pattern pistol.
2) Guns were built around the 10 round magazine which resulted in smaller guns.
3) Manufacturers created very small handguns in 9x19mm once they realized the popularity of guns in the second group. Examples include the Kahr K9 and MK9.
4) Revolver guys extolled the virtues of accuracy regardless of capacity. People still carried J-Frames in their pockets as their primary gun.
5) Rifles got stuck with goofy short magazines. A few manufacturers built 10 round guns, but most guns suffered from funky cut magazines. Look at the California compliant models for the conniptions manufacturers go through to get their guns into that market.

Overall, the AWB increased the number of designs to choose from.

I carry a Kel-Tec P11 9MM with a 10 rd magazine. So I'm not sure which option I should pick.

How about "N/A" as in "Not Applicable"?

Options 1, 2, and 4 for me ;)

But I chose 1 because you're limited to a single selection. I interpreted 1 to also include those guns with a 10-round magazine capacity, such as the P11 or G26.

my EDC is a revolver

but my standard capacity magazines will be used in my pistols...period

FYI

"standard capacity magazines" is what the media call "high-capacity clips"

Options 2, 4, 5, and 6...

I'd likely continue carrying my G19 and G21 with the magazines that I have. If, for some reason, I run out of reliable mags, I will switch to 10-round magazines (assuming they're legal and available). I would do what I can to continue carrying those two firearms because I shoot them the best. I can also jump down to my G26 if I find myself wanting a smaller package.

Now I would also use the opportunity as an excuse to pick up a single-stack/lower capacity .45. Maybe a 1911, maybe a Sig P220, maybe a G30. Hell, maybe even a G36 or CW45. I might even be persuaded into the revolver camp, and get a .357 Magnum.

Where's the option for Would continue to carry with the same 15-round magazines I use currently?

Either that or I'd finally buy a 1911.

Depends on the situation, already have a spectrum of carry choices some are under 10 rounds, some are not. If things change to ban possesion of 10+ round magazines I would likely opt for my Witness Compact .45ACP from the previous ban era with 10 round capacity plus a spare magazine.

I already moved down a notch from a Glock 19 to a Ruger SR9c. I don't mind ten round magazines since I am used to only having a revolver or a .380. For me it was still a move upwards, smaller package easier to carry then the Glock plus more rounds and power than a pocket gun.

If they can limit it to 10, will they lower it to 6 after the next mass killing? If they do, would you switch to a revolver?

That is why I picked up five-shot revolver chambered for 9x19 cartridge. S&W moon clips are <$2/piece.

Here in the people's republic of N.Y. We're already limited to ten, but I hear that ole uncle Andy and his twin nanny Bloomberg are figuring on trying to get that total down to seven or some such. Probably be the end to most semi auto's.

Money Bag Nanny is going to make poor folk healthy and safe by limiting caloric intake and taking guns away. We're like big grandkids, oh yeh.

I carry a five round J-frame, so it wouldn't affect me. I'm still not in favor of the ban though. I have other pistols besides the one that I carry every day.

For those who are asking, if you carry 10, then "less" is the answer. Essentially, that answer is saying that a ban wouldn't affect you because your gun is already compliant.

At least our mags are...

Unless they dont grandfather them into a new law.

See New Jersey's 15rd limit for an example.

It's like this...my EDC is holstered with a 10 round mag but I carry extra 17 round mags.

My other concern is home defense, particularly in the aftermath of natural disasters. I do own several higher capacity magazines, but still not enough. So, yeah, I'd rethink my weapon choice.

Hard to squeeze all that in a poll.
