The are cherry picking data.

You can cherry pick too and say Switzerland, New Zealand & Norway are armed to the teeth and have a much lower crime rate than ... well just about any country.

You can be a little more honest and ask why crime skyrocketed after UK and Australia banned guns.


You can be completely honest and reference the CDC or the National Academy of Sciences report that says gun freedoms don't have a clear trend in either direction on crime (within the US). There is a dissenting opinion that more guns equals more crime by one of the panelists.

Any data that tries to ignore the population subsets tend to be fairly useless. Is it possible that as a percentage, firearm crime may not go down significantly if Chicago observed basic human rights?

Sure. But only because the vast majority of the 'victims' are related to drug and gangs.

We should look at the effect for lawful decent citizens.

Comparing two cities of drastically-different sizes and cultures hardly makes a case. If the commentator really wanted to, he should have gone where most others, particularly those on "our side" do, to Florida. Of course, he makes no statement regarding how many Flint murders were committed by people who have gone through the process of becoming licensed/permitted to carry a concealed firearm.
There could be many reasons why Flint has an increased crime rate. One could be that the economy in that state has been so unstable as of late.
This isn't an "article"; it's a "commentary", and, as such, it lacks any hint of any kind of research or education on the subject.

On a side note, this right here is how you know that the anti-gun crowd are absolutely not interested in so called "reasonable" gun restrictions. CCW folks ARE the people who have jumped through all the hoops. They've been trained, fingerprinted, background checked, etc. etc. and yet anti gunners STILL want them disarmed. That's why I cringe when I hear someone say "I believe in Second Amendment rights, BUT..." It will never stop until an outright ban is implemented.

They should toss out the killings where it was one armed thug vs another. Those have no bearing on the statistics of legal concealed carry.
