I am currently a member of Students for Concealed Carry on Campus, and feel strongly that all legal permit holders should be allowed to carry on my college campus here in Kentucky.

In the last few minutes, I've been searching all of the actual laws regarding CCW in Kentucky on college campuses. I haven't found one that says that I cannot carry on a college campus, legally. They all say no carrying on primary and secondary school property, but don't say anything about postsecondary. So my question is, is there a cold hard law out there prohibiting any legal licenceholder from carrying on college campuses in Kentucky?

I know that my, and all other schools in the state that I'm aware of, have rules against firearms of any sort on school property, and that if I choose to violate those rules, am caught, and refuse to leave when asked I am now trespassing. I know that if I was caught I would probably leave cuffed in a police cruiser, and be expelled. I'd have to think about it, but I'm not sure those consequences would stop me from protecting my life in the best way I can. A felony will stop me, however, so I need to figure out what the law is. And, before I do anything, I will get advice from a good lawyer, what I want to find out here is if its a waste of my time to even contact the lawyer.

Well, you found out the law! I work with KC3, http://www.kc3.com/index.html We are trying to get that law changed. A petition to get KY to make that change is in process.

KC3 is petitioning the commonwealth government for a fundamental change in the current concealed deadly weapons law. This change will expand on the current law and allow CDW license holders to carry concealed on school and university properties throughout Kentucky.
We the undersigned petition the state Legislature of Kentucky to remove all restrictions to carry concealed weapons on school property, school buildings, school buses, and school functions by persons licensed to carry concealed weapons. We insist the State return our legal ability to protect our children while at school, whether High School, elementary, or college, public and private. We do not want our children to be unprotected, unarmed victims while attending school.

According to the kc3 website:

Where am I not allowed to carry a concealed firearm?

*

Any police station or sheriff's office;
*

Any prison, jail, or detention facility;
*

Any courthouse containing only courtrooms or any court proceeding;
*

Any meeting of the General Assembly, a committee of the General Assembly, or of the governing body of a county, city, or special district;
*

Any portion of an establishment licensed to dispense beer or alcoholic beverages for consumption on the premises, which portion is devoted primarily to that purpose;
*

Any elementary or secondary school facility without the consent of the school authorities;
*

Any child-care facility, day care center or certified family child care home;
*

Any area of an airport where people and property are inspected;
*

Any place where federal law prohibits it.

In addition, private businesses may post their premises against concealed carry.

Again, I'm not saying this info is final as the true interpretation of the law. However, at least for me to get my right to carry on my college campus in Kentucky, I'm not seeing anything legally to stop me.

You would not be breaking the law by carrying on your campus -- you would only be violating University policy. Yes, it is true that violating this policy could lead to your dismissal from the University. However, unless you do something stupid with the gun, no one would be the wiser.

That is why KC3 is working to change the law, which the university would be then forced to follow, instead of not allowing carry on campus.

Who's consent in particular, and how does this conflict with Federal law? The reason I ask is I work in a district and this has made me wonder

Also keep in mind and I live very close to UK they are private collages hence can legally make their places gun free zones. Now a public school that might also make a difference. I do have a CC permit here in Kentucky also but don't go to the collage other than the hospital occasionally. I find their making smokers stand on the sidewalks to smoke more distressing.

krs 527.070 subsection 3, article F. this is purely curiosity btw, dont want to get exploded upon

You can carry on university property. It says secondary schools...not post secondary schools.

Its just you'd get expelled if you were a student or fired if you were a teacher.

Perhaps you should check out the site:

http://pjmedia.com/instapundit/

and read all the links there about distance learning. That is, instead of attending a brick and mortar school where you are not allowed to carry you might be able to get the education you need over the internet.

Something I would check out should I decide to go back to shcool.
