Drop down hidden gun shelves?

I planned on making something like that out of a coffee table I have--just not as nice.

I wouldn't even mind building one like it as I do have woodworking experience but I cant figure out what those latches are called.

I made a few secret compartments in my old career as a custom cabinetmaker.

Those are a piece of cake, but you have to make a block of wood or similar as you make your project to use a guide to ensure tolerances. Most secret compartments are too big. While mechanical hardware connections such as hasps etc., are neat if they are small enough, you don't want to use huge window latches and the like. Magnets, especially rare earth magnets are the best way to seclude such a panel, whether vertical or drop down, or as a false bottom in a drawer. Also, avoid keys. They get lost. A really good secret panel won't need a actual turn key anyway. You can spot a bubba job in the dark.

Their website doesn't seem to exist.

I wonder if the shelves have any kind of actual lock on them? Might be an interesting idea if so.

Magnetic locks are often something you can find to baby proof a home

Yeah I've found some magnetic locks for kitchen cabinets but they all look like cheap plastic. I cant seem to find something like those that are heavy duty like shown in the video

Too slow for me.........but thanks for the post

I'm always open to ideas. Do you know of something faster that is still fairly secure and hidden in plain sight?

The question is what are you really trying to do here?

If it's hiding a gun or whatever in a floating mantle, the overall design this basspro guy has is pretty good. I'd build one myself or have a trim carpenter do it. I'd forgo the childproof magnetic lock that needs the key for a few recessed keyless magnets so all you have to do is push down the hinged part of the mantle to open it, instead of looking for the key, or positioning the key in just the right spot.

Personally, I'm not a fan of mantles that are anywhere but above a fireplace.

An alternative would be to cut a hole in your wall behind a hanging mirror or picture. Frame in that hole with a box, hinge your painting or mirror, put a magnetic push latch on it, possibly a magnet to hold your gun in the right position, or I guess you could use a cheap holster, and there you go, hidden in plain sight. Think in wall safe. Better yet would be to install an in wall safe with a painting, mirror, or even a fake electrical panel in front of it, location dependent.

An outside wall will usually be 2" deeper than an interior wall.

Holster or Gunvault screwed under your coffee table? In a kitchen cabinet, behind your microwave or inside the fridge?

I guess it all depends on how paranoid/prepaired you need to be.
