Kestrel Partners with Applied Ballistics Inc. to Integrate Well-Regarded Ballistics Calculator into New Kestrel Shooter’s Weather Meter

BOOTHWYN, PA – Nielsen-Kellerman (NK), creator and manufacturer of Kestrel® Weather & Environmental Meters, has partnered with Applied Ballistics, Inc., experts on the science of accuracy and precision for long-range shooting, to launch an addition to Kestrel’s Ballistics Weather Meter line of products. The brand-new Kestrel Shooter’s Weather Meter with Applied Ballistics allows users to calculate accurate fire control solutions for long-range rifle shooting, in addition to measuring up to 15 environmental parameters. The new Shooter’s Weather Meter with Applied Ballistics will make its first appearance at SHOT Show in Las Vegas, Jan. 15-18, 2013, and will be available for pre-order for spring 2013 production.

With integrated Applied Ballistics software, Kestrel users are now able to select from either G1 or G7 ballistic coefficients (BC) when calculating a trajectory. The new Ballistics Kestrel also offers the “Litz” measured BC library of over 225 bullets, a library that is considered to be the most extensive source of measured data for modern small arms bullets. In addition to these features, users can “train” the software to match a specific rifle based on observed impacts at long range with the ballistics calibration feature. With more accurate BC data, shooters are empowered to make more precise trajectory calculations.

Another notable feature is the Kestrel Shooter’s Weather Meter with Applied Ballistics’ ability to connect to wind sensor arrays designed and sold by Applied Ballistics. Various wind array sensors placed on the range for sniper training applications will be able to report wind data back to the Kestrel Meter at greater distance than ever before defined in a handheld weather meter. Like all Kestrels, this meter is IP67 waterproof and MIL-STD-810F rugged, allowing users to avoid the expense and weight of a ruggedized PDA. The new unit also allows PC access to a full bullet catalog with the Bluetooth® wireless data transfer option.

Kestrel Weather & Environmental Meters are manufactured by NK, which has been researching, developing and manufacturing technically advanced environmental instruments for more than 15 years and owns multiple patents on their unique features. Kestrel Weather & Environmental Meters are employed by thousands of users in hundreds of demanding activities around the world. Every Kestrel meter is pocket-sized, rugged, accurate, waterproof, easy-to-use, and backed by an industry-leading five-year warranty.

Trade in Your Kestrel Weather & Environmental Meter at this Year’s SHOT Show and We’ll Donate Your Used Kestrel to AmericanSnipers.org

Boothwyn, PA – January 3, 2012 – Nielsen-Kellerman (NK), creators and manufacturers of Kestrel® Weather & Environmental Meters, will be at the 2013 SHOT Show in Las Vegas, NV, Jan. 15 -18 at booth #1946. As part of its long-standing relationship with AmericanSnipers.org, Kestrel Weather & Environmental Meters will be offering its “Trade-In, Trade-Up” program during the show, which enables Kestrel customers to trade in their existing Kestrel Meter for a specified value toward a newer or different model. Used Kestrel Meters are then refurbished and donated to AmericanSnipers.org, an organization dedicated to supporting snipers in the global war on terror.
AmericanSnipers.org is made up of active, local, state and federal police snipers as well as snipers from various military branches. AmericanSnipers.org has made it their mission to assist snipers who do not have the funding the buy their own equipment. The American Snipers program is entirely funded by civic donations and currently staffed by both operational and retired US police and military snipers (or members of their families).

This year is a great time to take advantage of the “Trade-In/Trade-Up” program for two main reasons. First, Kestrel is introducing its Ballistics Weather Meter Line for the first time. Secondly, in addition to the refurbished model donations, if any customer requests to purchase a Kestrel Meter at full retail price instead of the discounted SHOT show price, a new Kestrel will be donated to AmericanSnipers.org through NK’s “Buy a Kestrel, Give a Kestrel” Program. AmericanSnipers.org, formally known as AdoptASniper.org, will also be attending this year’s SHOT show.

Kestrel Weather & Environmental Meters are employed by thousands of users in hundreds of demanding activities around the world. Every Kestrel Meter is pocket-sized, rugged, accurate, waterproof, easy-to-use and backed by an industry-leading five-year warranty. Measure up to 15 environmental parameters. Advanced models in the Kestrel 4000 series add high-capacity data-logging with on-screen graphical recall and optional Bluetooth® wireless data transfer to computers and smart phones as well as built-in calculators for specialized requirements, such as ballistics firing solutions for long-range shooting and evaporation rate for concrete placement. Every Kestrel meter is designed, developed, built, tested and supported entirely in the USA. NK is proud to be both a recognized leader in Lean manufacturing and process improvement and an award-winning top workplace.

Nielsen-Kellerman to Showcase Kestrel 4500 Weather & Environmental Meter with
Horus® Ballistics Software at 2013 SHOT Show

Built-in targeting calculator makes handheld weather meter a compact ballistics tool and complete shooting solution.
Boothwyn, PA – December 5, 2012 – Nielsen-Kellerman (NK), creators and manufacturers of Kestrel® Weather & Environmental Meters, partnered with Horus® Vision to provide a powerful shooting tool that combines the critical environmental data and targeting software solutions required for precision shooting ̶ all in one 4-ounce pocket-sized unit. The Kestrel 4500 Weather & Environmental Meter with Horus® Ballistics Software will be one of the many innovative and sought-after products featured at the Kestrel booth (#1946) at the 2013 SHOT Show in Las Vegas.

Taking into consideration the fact that shooters previously had to obtain environmental data from a Kestrel Meter and then input that data into a PDA loaded with the Horus ATrag™ Ballistics Software, the two companies combined all the necessary data and solutions into one device to help minimize user workload and distractions.

The Kestrel Meter is IP67 waterproof and MIL-STD-810F rugged, allowing users to avoid the expense and weight of carrying a ruggedized PDA. The unit also allows users to load and customize multiple firearms and rounds from the proprietary Horus database. Simple, intuitive screens allow the user to create up to five targets customized for location, distance, direction, declination and winds. Once these parameters are set, the Kestrel Meter takes over ̶ tracking the current met data and automatically updating the firing solution using Horus advanced proprietary algorithms.
“Each Kestrel model is designed with its users in mind,” stated Nielsen-Kellerman CEO, Alix James. “The decision to partner with Horus Vision was an easy one; Horus ATrag is a proven ballistics solver, and the combination gives long-range shooters an accurate, long-lasting instrument that provides everything they need in one unit, eliminating any weight and complexity.”

The Kestrel 4500 with Horus Ballistics is just one of the many products that are scheduled to be available at the 2013 SHOT Show. The company will also be premiering its new Hunting version of the complete weather meter and shooting solution, which is scheduled to be available for purchase in the spring of 2013; and all those who come by are asked to provide their input to help create the best product for the hunting community.
From Wildland Firefighters putting their lives on the line, to drop-zone monitoring, firearm ballistics and UAV’s, a Kestrel Meter has proven to be the ideal companion for virtually any application.

Amazing. Love the Shooter one.

Hey, can I get a free one since it was my idea? ;) ;)

More info on trade in;

Yes, the trade in program is something we can do at any time if they request it when the trade in their unit.

Interesting development... now if only there were a way to automatically project that data into a display in a scope.

As integrating sensors and technology into the shooter's toolkit has long been a personal geek-out of mine, I'll be watching with great interest. :)

I hope you're bringing gallons of coffee and a tent. Tomorrow is going to be cold. On a positive note, I'll get to test your new stuff while using gloves... :)

Please post lots of photos....I wish I could make it to the show this year, looks like it will be next year before I can get there.. I want to see the weather meter...
Will do. If it's like last year then there'll be no phone (and therefore no phone wifi access point) access at the range. If they've added capacity, then it'll be saturated.

We'll be taking notes and photos, then we'll come back to the room and have multiple posting all at once. If we do it right, it'll be a deluge of info on really cool new stuff.

If not, then we'll be up 'til 2AM local and y'all will be complaining. I'm hoping for the former. ;)

Stop by Kestrel booth #1946 @ #SHOTshow! 2PM we'll be having a demo of our brand new product, Kestrel Shooter's w/Applied Ballistics!!

Last day at SHOT show Kestrel WILL be taking pre-orders for the new Kestrel Shooter's Weather Meter with Applied Ballistics. In one week we'll be accepting web orders. Stop by booth 1946 to place your pre-order!

Newbie here on THR; but just checked and haven't seen anything new on the Kestrel website. Any updates on availability?

Has anyone tried the Kestrel Bluetooth with an unlocked I-Phone 5 yet?
