The NRA needs a face....

The absolute train wreck he (Nugent) perpetrated earlier is on tape, he is out.

P.S. He moderated his highly dramatic "act" after a visit from the BATFE, maybe the Secret Service too.

I think the face needs to be well spoken and comes across calm. Obama is a great speaker even if you don't agree with what he has to say.

Alex Jones is the opposite of what we need. Might be better to have some average guy too and not some war hero to bring moderates to our side.

Someone like this guy. Well spoken, calm, average person that believes in our constitutional rights.

He has a couple good videos.

Need someone that bucks the stereotype of gun owners. It seems that most anti-gun people view all gun owners as illiterate, toothless, redneck types or rich, old, white guys.

I don't have anything against rednecks or old white guys, but it's not the best image in this ultra PC world we live in.

that's the problem with ted nugent... I'm fine with illiterate white guys, rednecks, whatever, but I can't stand chest beating idiots like him. Nor people who call for violence against others.

Ted's credibility is out. He got into trouble with Alaska Game Dept last year for some illegal misdemeanor when hunting black bears. He is out for sure. We need some new faces and voices that are respectable and has an impeccable records. One with very solid foundations on the 2A and articulate to boot. Kudos to the young guy batting P Morgan a few hrs ago. He did very well.

Jolie, an avid shooter (she has to be to be getting her own $400k shooting range), Jolie has several times expressed her support of the Second Amendment.

In 2008, Jolie told the U.K.’s Daily Mail, “I bought original, real guns of the type we used in ‘Tomb Raider’ for security. Brad and I are not against having a gun in the house, and we do have one. And yes, I’d be able to use it if I had to … If anybody comes into my home and tries to hurt my kids, I’ve no problem shooting them.”

These guys are a bit hypocritical though, they're living in my country, France, which has quite restrictive laws on gun ownership.

I wonder which shooting club Mr Pitt and Ms Jolie go to, because it's mandatory in France to be registered as a sports-shooter if you want to own smokeless powder firearms, unless you have a hunter's licence.

when they get their face somebody please help them shop for a backbone too.

Actually, I watched David Keene interviewed by Matt Lauer just this morning and I thought he said everything I would have liked to see and he did it in a calm yet resolved demeanor.

I wish the NRA would make Mr. Colion Noir some sort of an offer:

http://mrcolionnoir.com/

It's not just that he is black, but he represents the changing demographic of gun owners as well: younger, increasingly urban and suburban, more interested in self-defense than hunting, internet and social media-saavy, etc.

I agree. The NRA needs a new public spokesperson. They also need to get their message out over the airwaves to counter at least some of the liberal media's rhetoric on guns.

David Keene has done several of the interviews lately and has done a superb job. I wonder, as president of the NRA, if he (and maybe others) are trying to keep LaPierre away from the camera due to his recent poor public performances.

We need someone that urban America can identify with. Look at the last Presidential election. The GOP's big gun was Clint Eastwood; Obama had Katy Perry. Anyone that already likes Clint does not need to be won over to "the other side" by his celebrity persona. The NRA needs someone that those undecided persons can identify with, be woken up by, are willing to listen to and then make a decision. The suggestion for Brad Pitt is excellent. He is well liked by people on both sides of the issue. People would listen to what he had to say and not pre-judge it. Ted Nugent comes across as a nut job and honestly, he's an old rock star, how many young people really identify with him? Vs a Brad Pitt, or a Kid Rock?

Two others that are pro RKBA:

Brad Pitt:
Pitt said in a recent interview with British magazine Live (in response to more gun control following the Colorado movie shooting), “I absolutely don’t believe you can put sanctions or shackles on what is made. Nor do I want to pretend the world is different than what we witnessed that night… America is a country founded on guns. It’s in our DNA. It’s very strange but I feel better having a gun. I really do. I don’t feel safe, I don’t feel the house is completely safe, if I don’t have one hidden somewhere. That’s my thinking, right or wrong.”

Pitt also recently built a $400,000 shooting range as a wedding gift to fiance Angelina Jolie.

I'd love to see either one in the role as spokesperson for the NRA. I was lucky enough to be able to speak to both of them about gun ownership in the U.S. and both of them are strong supporters of the 2nd amendment and they understand what it means.

Same standards that got the present administration elected twice.

Sorry but having some empty head celeb or spokes person just because they come across well is a recipe for a bad reality tv series.

You fight for a cause because you believe in it, not because theres a pretty face as its spokesperson.

When I was young you went to the elderly for advice because of experience and expertise. Todays youth consider face book likes and twitter followers as qualifications for everthing.

I'm not saying I agree with it, I'm saying that's how political battles are won in this country. There's an awful lot of people that get "their" opinions from mass media, be it networks news or celebrities. If you are not a gun person, and you're trying to make a decision about new gun laws, how can I best sway your vote? Wayne Lapierre reminds me of a reanimated corpse, I don't see the 18-30 year old crowd identifying with him. Give me Brad Pitt holding an AR surrounded by his kids and saying it's for the children. Give me Taylor Swift talking about gun rights to Ryan Gosling at a Pro 2nd Amendment free concert. That's what the NRA needs to do to effect the win it needs. You can bet Obama is already planning just such events.

It's simple. Get a pro-2A Victoria's Secret model to be the face, and get a level-headed 40-year-old guy to be the voice.

I disagree......the NRA doesn't need a face anymore than the Tea Party needed one. Liberals will only target, attack, and demonize any face you put on the issue. The NRA ads that ran a few years ago...."I am the NRA, and I vote" were quite effective. NRA is far bigger than any one person and the opposition needs to know it.

Attach your wagon behind one leader and you attach yourself to their flaws as well as strengths. We need to be known for our ideals and principals, not personalities.

Apples and oranges.

Are you telling me that if Heston was still with us and had been on Meet the Press he wouldn't have done better? He would have commanded respect and had instant credibility. We need someone non gun owners like, and/or respect.

I had the honor to work with Heston on a number of projects, he was well respected within the gun community. Many have forgotten he was also decried by the anti's as being a senile washed up actor who had lost his senses. I saw how they personally attacked him, his beliefs, and credibility. Even Michael Moore went to Heston's home and ambushed him. We are conditioned to accepting products based on a pop culture figure endorsements....I'm saying to promote the 2nd Amendment based on history and its own merits, not personalities.

Heston was good in his day, but if he were alive right now, how relevant would he be? Meaning other than his celebrity as an NRA spokesperson, he was more or less a "former" actor. Looking at his filmography, the last major role he had was in "True Lies" in 1994. The NRA needs someone who is current.
