My friends, if you are concerned about your home state, consider Texas. It is one of the most gun-friendly states in the Union. Although it is good to fight the good fight on your home turf, sometimes you have to realilze the score. I was born and raised in upstate NY. I grew up on a farm and essentially lived in the woods. Unfortunately, the {Removed by moderator} in NYC feel they are so much more enlightened than the rest of the state. So be it. I moved from NY State over 5 years ago and never regreted it. I was a 6th generation NY'er. My great grandfather fought with the 14th NY Heavy Artillery in the Civil War. I know he would be disappointed that I left my native state.

As they say here in Texas, "I wasn't born in Texas, but I got here as soon as I could."

If you come here with a gun friendly attitude, you will be welcomed as a brother or sister.

I look forward to seeing you here.

My great Grandfather went to Texas after being on the ''wrong'' side in the Civil War. He'd be proud if I ended up there, but I own property in California, that's worth just about what I have left oweing, and a spouse that doen't want to leave.

When considering Texas, also consider the Sun, which calls Texas it's vacation getaway.

Is the Texas Nat'l Guard or Border Patrol recruiting? I've joshed about doing it for years, but only within the past year have I actually seriously considered the proposition. If I didn't live in PA (we're considered the Texas of the NE except for Pittsburgh and Philly of course, which most bitter clingers such as myself wish would secede) I likely would have done it already. Being so close to the MD line gives me the heebie-jeebies.

My only problem with you people; why no open carry yet? At least we do have that freedom in PA. Are the penalties for being caught OC'ing (purposefully or by mistake) pretty stiff? How are the LEO concerning firearms? MD has some of the worst, but PA isn't terrible.

Its just civil to be concealed. Dont wanna alarm the badguys of your weapon.

My house in CA ain't worth much, but the spouse likes Idaho. Yipeee!!. All we have to do is cash out of CA. Won't be a windfall, but just getting out of the state is a bonus. Sorry to hear your predicament.

I lived most of my life in california (Intentionally not capitalized) until I retired 10 years ago. I always wanted to move to Texas, but then I found Arizona. Constitutional carry (CC or OC, no permit required) and if the Fed's don't prohibit it, it's legal!

Moved right up to ID and out of CA when I could for school. I plan on staying here.

Considered Texas and other states as well. But Idaho is pretty low-key which I like. Just trying to convince the parents to sell some of the properties when time allows for them to move up with me.

Some areas of CA are gun friendly and have conservative views like where I'm from. But that state is messed up and I don't think it will ever be entirely fixed. But I'm not one of those who wants it to fall into the ocean, because I like my beach house and supplemental income warehouse.

We don't have open carry yet....but we're working on it. There is a very casual attitude in Texas about guns and this carries over to law enforcement. They seem very community oriented....more focused on making a neighborhood safe and functional than on trying to raise revenue.

I live in the most socialist of TX cities and other than bars I have only seen a few businesses prohibit concealed carry.

IKEA is one of them. The other is a small chain of corner stores downtown. There is a list out there that shows the places that prohibit. You don't want to give them your money anyways right?

If you hate winter and think you like summer...make sure you like 6 months of summer and a good stretch of weeks 100 and above. Also, we don't have squat for public land here.

As cool as it is to live in Texas and talk all that "oh that's right you're not from Texas" trash, I'm looking for a major city in a relatively warm place with actual nature and public land.

Why does TX have little land? Because it joined our country after being its own country. So the land was already "owned" instead of the federal government giving/selling it to settlers and reserving some for wilderness/big parks.

I'm thinking Utah, Idaho, Alaska (anchorage actually isn't that cold).

All of that being said, God bless Texas. It is a great state. Just a state where you need money in order to enjoy yourself in the outdoors.

That is about the only downside to living here. I am blessed to have married into a family with land. Otherwise, I might be looking elsewhere to satisfy my hunting and shooting passion.

Texas is full. We don't need any more **********ns or Yankees. We don't have enough water for ourselves, never mind immigrants. I sympathize with those stuck in NY or CA, though.
And the lack of public land is an issue.

Another Texas speed bump is that any business can forbid carry under the law.

It's hard to find ones that do. Kind of funny too about some, all depends on whos's managing it. There is a branch bank of a major banking corporation in my town that allows concealed carry in the bank. I went to a branch owned by the same bank in the next town over from me one day and saw they had the signs up for no carry.

All are welcome here. But for God's sake LEAVE YOUR ANTI GUN SENTIMENTS WHERE YA COME FROM! We don't need whacko idea's on this matter creeping in. Texas ain't perfect, but it's pretty damn good here. For now....

Having lived in texas for 15+ years, it is a very gun friendly state (some of the metro police depts. can be a bit twitchy, though).

Missouri has gotten a lot better since CC passed in '03, and our wishy-washy Democrat Governor is pretty much a lame duck; we have a bullet-proof Republiucan majoity in both State Houses.

We are in this together. We have to be in this together. The constitution applies to all of us, and when it starts to get chipped away at ya'all out there in TX will be just as screwed as the rest of us.

I Moved To Texas In 1997....

Soon after I arrived a fellow asked me, "Where are you from man?"

I mentioned the N. Eastern state I had resided in.

He got a sad look on his face.

I added, "I would like to add; I'm a honorably retired veteran of over 20 years service in the US Army, I'm married, I work, pay my taxes, I'm a gun owner, support the second admendment 100%, I'm a member of the church and I don't like the Clinton's!"

He nodded, and said, "Well, okay then!"

Guess I had all the right answers! ;)
