And now for something really dumb....

i swear, common sense aint so common anymore.

lets assume for a second that showing a semi-automatic firearm on TV is actually 'bad'....how is showing adds with revolvers and bolt action rifles is any better?

what is the statement they are trying to make?....are they saying its OK to be violent with a revolver, but not a semi-automatic?.......are semi-autos somehow more prone to making a person more apt to use it illegally?......i dont get it.

I assume they will stop showing any movies with semi or full auto firearms in them too?

Or are they biased as well as hypocrites?

No ,but they are promoting the stallone movie bullet to the head . that violent title is ok....

They sure as hell dont mind showing NCIS re-runs all day long, CSI Crime Scene Investigation, CSI Miami, cold case, flashpoint, numbers, blue bloods, monk, Law in order, law and order:special victims, Suits, amish mafia, archer, and those gun wielding tv series shows... "So what gives?"
Talk about two faced.... That's the pot calling the kettle black.

Oh, the irony. I clicked the link and the side bar ad was for the final season of Spartacus. Blood and gore splattering my computer screen.

They'll allow an ad on their website showing people being dismembered by swords, but they won't show guns being pointed at people.

Thank goodness we're being protected from the images of firearms (in ads) along with the images of breasts or the sound of particular words.

Don't worry about the awful imagery of violence needed to sell scripted drama to the masses though - that's just fiction.

I wonder if Time Warner Cable is going to drop Outdoor Channel all together? TWC can stop inserting their own local ads in the avails that they are given by Outdoor Channel, but that does not mean that Outdoor Channel's ads won't continue to be shown.

This is just unreal. What is wrong with half the people in this country? Are there that many hormones in the food and water? Maybe, just maybe, after one more generation of breeding they'll be so helpless and stupid they'll just starve themselves to death. :banghead:

For the record, as a private company, they are free to do this, I just think it's kind silly.

They are banning ads with semi-auto firearms in them.

I don’t agree that cable companies are all that private when they are the monopoly utility for internet and cable in many areas. What if they start blocking internet gun content such as http://www.thehighroad.org? Plus, I would just as soon as they block ads for sexual dysfunction and anti-depressant medications.

And if they block to much, to the point that the consumers cancel their accounts, then they will either change, or open the door for a competitor.

As dumb as I think Time Warner is here, should we call for government action to force them to run the content we want?

A neutral cable and internet provider is what they should be. Said differently, one that follows the laws and regulations on advertising and nothing else. Self imposed restrictions on content further “down the line” by entities such as cable providers is not what they should be doing. By the way, I was being sarcastic about the cable companies banning the drug ads. But I am not at all in favor of direct to consumer advertising of any prescription drugs. The US and New Zealand are the only nations that permit it.

And all of these anti gun hollywood types, should have to donate every dime they made, or will make, showing them using a gun, to the NRA.
