Hey gang,

My wife is having some serious health issues at the moment.

I MAY need to sell my Smith and Wesson M&P 15A. I am not fishing for offers, but asking what a realistic market price is.

Its brand new in the box.
Its one of the later ones, made in-house by S&W, as opposed to built for them.

Its unfired, in the box with all paperwork. I have 3 troy battle mags, 2 steel mil-spec C-product mags, and one Magpul p-mag.

What would be a good price to ask, if I need to sell it?

I applied for "care credit", through GE finance, they approved me for $800. I'm not sure how far $800 will go. Shes been in a lot of pain, needs one root canal and one extraction and one fill. The infection is BAD at this point, and we are both full time students...so I may need to "man up" and sell my prized M4 that I have not got to shoot yet.

Thanks,
Steve

Go onto gunbroker and look up the finished auctions that had guns that sold. That will give you the going rate for your gun. If you've never used gunbroker before, you can expect to get a little less. It works like ebay with your rating. If you have not been rated or have a bad rating, people aren't as trusting.

After attending a Kansas gun show today, I'd bet you could get $2K or close to it. Not sure that makes much sense but it's what I saw.

Thanks guys. Hopefully I won't have to sell. I wouldn't like selling it for any less than $2k, because replacing it would be pretty expensive, and who knows what the future holds. Its a nice model, with the troy battle sight and chrome lined barrel.

I haven't even gotten to shoot it yet.

Hopefully I can find a dentist or oral surgeon that will take the $800 in GE carecredit I've been granted, and let me go far enough with that and make payments on the rest. I guess this week will tell.

Looks like I can ask $2k and take just a little less without seeming steep, IF I need to.
So hopefully you guys don't see this for sale in the next week.

Thanks again.

If you have a trusted friend or relative with some extra money maybe you could reach an agreement to sell to them for $1,000 with option to buy back in 12-18 months for $1,100? I did a similar deal with my brother on a Browning Hi Power back ten or so years ago when he needed a quick $500. Unfortunately he bought it back from me. I still miss that gun. :(

I wish, man. Everybody is having a hard time. Or isn't interested in a gun, or is a prohibited person. The one person who could and would do it, is 1250 miles away.

Tough times Gwarghoul. I feel you on the dental bills, I will be paying a lot to my dentist this year.

Now back to selling the gun, an FFL transfer is not always expensive.

I agree that you could get $2000 without too much fuss in today's panic. In your case, I wouldn't feel bad about trying to get as much as anyone would pay for it. However, I would first find another way to pay your bills, because you'll be missing your rifle in a few months...

I was talking to a local gun dealer and he claimed he's selling his RRA Ar's for $2,400 at gun shows.

The gun was $1049 before the market went crazy. Its not a sport. It has the chrome-lined barrel (made by thomson/center) ..Troy battle sight on the rear, f-marked front sight. Hasn't been fired.

After taxes I think I paid like $1150ish. I would think that with the way the market is, $1500 would be to low. I couldn't replace it with a good brand name AR with the same specs for $1500.

Man, I could use the money.. but I want the gun.

I got approved for another joint account of Care Credit, for an additional $500.

She needed a emergency root canal, and some pricey anti-biotics.

We needed $480 more. The edonodonist's office wouldn't take a post-dated check, or payments or anything!

So, thankfully we were approved for additional line of credit.

So thats $1180 right there, 6 months interest free, after that its insane! GE carecredit is making some money, thats for sure.

I need to take her back to a regular dentist in 30 days and have the temporary filling drilled out, and permanent filled and crowed. I have no idea how much that costs, but it will be cheaper since it will be done by a regular dentist.

THAT will determine if I have to sell or not. Maybe the market price will go up, to where I can pay it all off and buy a nice pistol or deer gun, or maybe it will go down to where I can buy another.

You might want to call the dentist and find out. I would hate for you to have to sell your rifle, but if you have to sell, now is the time. I think this will die down in a few months, and prices will get closer to normal. Which means you won't be able to sell the gun for as much.

You might put it on gunbroker with a high reserve, you might get lucky. I hate having to sell a gun...

I agree, if you think you may want to or have to sell that rifle anytime soon do it now. I'm already seeing more of them than I did in the last month. If you hope to get anywhere near $2,000 for it, I'd try to do it before the panic dies down, which it seems like it will start declining soon. In a year, you can probably buy the same rifle for a lot less than you can sell it for now.

If you wait much longer, I don't see anywhere near $2,000 being possible.

Prices are starting to stabilize right now. People who had the money or credit to buy early did so, at seriously inflated prices. You now see the ones with money left pouncing on pre panic priced weapons when folks can't sell for more. This was evident at the Pensacola Gun Show.

Keep your rifle. If you have time, you can make money. I've gone to a day labor business before to make some quick cash. Just be prepared to get some blisters.
