My thoughts also.

A whole new world to learn about. You can get set up for cheap. Cabelas will mail a gun to your door. Big bore shooting on the cheap.

I certainly don't shoot my cartridge guns as much a I did before I got my bp revolvers.

Another vote to join the dark side and buy something black powder!

My personal favorites are the c&b revolvers and flintlock rifles. The Colt 1860 especially is quite a gem to hold.

Desert Eagle was my fun gun purchase years ago. It doesn't do anything my Redhawk can't but big bore semi auto pistols are attention getters and fun to shoot. Wildey would be nice too.

I think a Calico .22 pistol with the 100 round mag would provide a chuckle. I'd love to try one.

In fact, most SMGs are pure fun. Wish I still owned one...

One gun I bought for pure fun was a MPA Defender in 9mm. They'll probably try to ban them now.

Maybe go for a S&W Xframe in 460 or 500....

Once you go 50 BMG... everything else just seems, so... small.

One drawback: It'll ruin you on all those little "pop guns" you have, permanently.

I had the pleasure of shooting a break action 45-70 this weekend, along with a couple of break action 12 gauges and a pump action 30-06. Those were all extremely fun to use. I still can't believe just how far the shells in those break actions eject. Took my brain a little while to get around the concept of pumping that rifle as well.

Leave the Bearcat to the kids - get a single-action revolver and be a cowboy!

A 10/22 or CZ-452. Both are great .22 rifles!

When I have mixed friends over and we shoot out back I can put out all of my guns.

Hands down the guys like the 870 at close range fired at a 55 gallon drum and the gals fall in love with my scoped 10/22. You did mention fun but did not mention cost of shooting. After the thrill of big hand guns and bang, bang is gone the 10/22 gets down to some serious tack driving and becomes the star of the show every time. A metal spinner target at 50 yards makes for easy play time and the gals with very little shooting experience do very well and usually want one.

But put me down for a flintlock fowler in 62 caliber. Lots of smoke and big balls that, in the right light, you can see hit the target.

And now, for something completely different - a 12 gauge target O/U and a membership to a shotgun club - go shoot sporting clays - about the most fun you can have with your clothes on.....but be forewarned, it is VERY addictive and the ammo and targets will cost WAY more than any gun you could buy.......

+1 on shooting sporting clays. Recently bought a Remington VersaMax semi auto 12 ga. and it's been a blast to shoot trap, SC and take to the field hunting. Not had a single issue in first 400 rounds fired and it's easy shooting as the kick is noticibly less than some other semi auto shotguns. Luckily our local private range has both skeet and trap courses. If the pistol and/rifle range is busy, I just go shoot trap since there's never anyone there unless it's close to the opening of duck season.

Also might consider a pre WWII slide action (pump) .22 like the Remington Model 12 or the Winchester Model 61 or 62. Fun to shoot and will do nothing but increase in value if bought right. I have one of both and the Remington Gallery gun is a hoot to shoot.

An older pistol, I have a S&W top break 3rd model in .32 caliber that was made ~1887 that's fun to shoot from 20 feet in. Several of the older S&W models can be bought in good condition for under $300. A true pocket pistol that if shot from over 30 feet will likely hit an innocent bystander instead of the bad guy.

Another fun gun is the KelTec Sub2000. I have the 40S&W version. With a 32rd Glock magazine it's fun and very accurate from 25 yds. The 9mm version has considerably less bite to it.

For me its my CMMG AR pistol in .22LR that I've made into a Short Barreled Rifle after doing the form 1 thing.

Its great hosing down steel plates or a dueling tree -- cheap to shoot, much more reliable with the cheap Federal bulk pack than any of our 10/22s, easy to clean, but easily goes 1000+ plus rounds without cleaning.

Another plus, the CMMG pistol uses a real AR lower so you can use full power uppers with it after you do the SBR thing.

A high end [Baer, Brown, Wilson, etc] .45 ACP; but price tag will be up over
$1K, some over $2K (Christiansen and Nighthawk)~!

How about assessing your shooting opportunities that are near your location, and plug that into your equation?? What's out there for you to participate in??
Trap/skeet/clays? SASS? IDPA? Black Powder? Long range rifle? Look for clubs within an hour's drive.
Keep an open mind. I am a recovering clay target shooter. Having been there and done that......I turned to black powder shooting, and am having a ball with it.

Automag III 30 carbine. Loud but so much fun! Sounds like a 44 mag and recoils like a 9mm.

My idea of a fun gun is a SXS .410 or a Winchester M42 if I'm being cheap
