CMP sold out of some and limiting sales of others

Just got an email blast from the CMP,

They are sold out of .22LR, they don't expect a resupply till late april and at a higher price.

They are shutting down all new orders for Lake City .30 carbine.

They are limiting sales of surplus .30-06 to 10 cans per customer per year (2,000 rds)

This is amazing since they have such a limited market, not many of us jump through all the hoops needed to buy from them.
(including govt. conspiracy folks)

How many of you guys out there can remember the "good old days" ... of unlimited M-1 carbines, unlimited M-1 Garands, never-ending supplies of .30-06 and .30 carbine ammo?

Looking back ... who'd of thought ....:uhoh:

It was just about a year (18 months) ago that i was still getting .30-06 en bloc in bandoleers rolled in sealed spam cans with 2 cans to a wooden crate. Really cool stuff but it was just their regular everyday ammo. Now the best you can get is 200 rds of loose rounds in a nice surplus .30 cal can.

I saved a few cases of those and never opened them... bet they are worth more than the $96.00 a case the CMP charged me for them now.

In 2009, CMP rationed the amount of 30-06 that an individual could buy in a year so this is not new to CMP.
 
CMP uses some kind of mass e-mailer but it can take a day or two to get through all the recipients.

I have heard about CMP mass e-mails before I actually got it. Most of the time, no big deal but frustrating when you are waiting for the announcement of a special rifle sale and time counts getting the order in.
 
They did the same thing in 2008 with ammo. Before that time, people were buying it by the truck load and they sold out. I understand why they are doing it this time too. I have lots of my own and a bunch of brass. I will leave the hoarding to others at this point. The only thing I wish I had a little more of is H4895 or other suitable powder so I could roll up even more food for my beasts. That too will come with time, as will the end of limits on ammo from the CMP. Do pay attention, however. The supply of Greek and all M2 Ball is finite. Someday it will be gone forever. Get into reloading now so you can keep shooting. Ball ammo shortages in 2008 are part of the reason I got into reloading.
 
Thank goodness I foresaw some of this and put in an order ASAP for an M1 and a bunch of ammo when things started to get crazy.

I'm really afraid that they will be shut down. Can you imagine a nice Piers Morgan hatchet job on how the federal government is arming its own citizens with the very same killing machines it's trying to ban? [yes, I know that's not accurate. when has that ever mattered?]

I still nervously check the web site every now and then to make sure they're still selling M1 Garands.

one thing about government programs is they are hard to shut down...

I remember reading that the department of agriculture has more employees than there are farmers.
