Proposed NRA Ad

The following is an ad I think the NRA should run...

The ad will use four people from the shooting sports community, to be selected later, each person will fit one of these four archetypes:

-Harmless sportsman {HS} (common image of a hunter, but armed with an AR15)
-Tactical shooter {TS} (three gun competitor or somebody like Chris Costa)
-Lawman {LM} (a cop or one of the pro gun sheriffs)
-Lady shooter {LS} (a female member of the shooting community, because we need to work on dissuading the all NRA members are old fat white men stereotype)

Everybody in the video will be holding their AR15

Subjects are positioned in front of a semitransparent dark background with a mosaic of images from the shooting sports behind it, video is black and white...

Every new line indicates a cut from person to person, only one person is shown at a time

HS: The rifle itself has no moral stature
LM: Since it has no will of its own.
LS: Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes.
TS: But there are more good men than evil {cut to a group photo from a shooting competition, the more ARs in the picture the better}
LS: and while the latter cannot be persuaded by propaganda
HS: They can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles
LM: ...good men with rifles
LS: ...good women with rifles
TS: ...good men with rifles
Following this, we cut to user submitted videos of NRA members saying "good men/women with rifles" showing 10-15 clips.

FADE TO BLACK

BLACK SCREEN: NRA LOGO, SILHOUETTE OF AN AR and "The NRA, good people with rifles"

I think that's great. One addition, the AR's should have as few "evil" features as possible. Maybe a chrome barrel for the competitor.

Remember the, "I'm so and so, and I'm the NRA" ads? Those were perfect. They put a human face on the NRA, just like your proposal does.

I've been criticized for saying this before, but I'll say it again. We need a shakeup in NRA leadership. They got eviscerated in the Superbowl ads. Regardless of what any of us think, the fact is the NRA is losing public respect.

I think we need someone like Ted Cruz, whose testimony at the recent hearings was spot on. Or a military hero who even Piers will defer to. For all that he's done in the past, LaPierre just doesn't come across well on TV, and his messaging is all off, esp with the Obama girls ads.

He's paid close to $1MM a year. In the private sector, an executive of that stature would be given one, maybe two strikes with the kind of public relations screwups we've had, and he'd be out. Time for new blood.

I agree with you to an extent on all points, however, we need to show evil features on the rifles where they fit (such an foregrip, light and collapsible stock for the tactical shooter) because we want to normalize the AR15 rifle as it is, not some idealized "sporting" version. That doesn't help us.
 
I like it. I'll do a "good men with rifles" clip. Someone should get it organized.
 
Good idea (in terms of production values, etc.), but I don't think it would persuade the target audience, which is non-gun people. No point in wasting money preaching to the converted. AR's remain "scary" to the uninitiated.
 
My only criticism is the {cut in some photos/mugshots of the recent mass killers} part.

There is no need to further publicize these cretins for what they have done. The MSM has plastered their faces like conquering heroes all over the TV and Internet, we don't need to do that same thing. Other than that, I like it.
 
That is very good. I think another good ad would be a young mother home alone at night with her young children. She hears a crash and retrieves (from secure storage of course) an AR type rifle with a light and laser to go investigate. As she does so flashbacks of her attending a NRA carbine class should be shown. The end would show the intruder fleeing and the woman and children safe and waiting for the police to arrive. I could see my wife in this scenario but she prefers the converted Saiga over the Del-Ton.

I also agree that the basic idea seems pretty good - but I would NOT use ANY photos of convicted or alleged mass shooters in the clip. They should not be glorified or made into celebrities, and those who are in their families do NOT need to be shown those faces on video screens everywhere. You'd also likely be inviting lawsuits in various civil courts.
 
How about a young lady similar to Danica Patrick, next to several other ladies who used military-styled rifles with 20-rd. magazines to deter/prevent an assault by multiple attackers?

JFtheGR8's comments were missed by me, and his are superb. How about with two-three intruders fleeing?
The overall situation described by him might be the best manner to portray a rifle which is considered to be much easier to effectively aim than any handgun.

Nothing visually pulls heartstrings like women trying to protect their children.

I'd rather see big Wayne L'P' step to the mike in his best grey suit and red tie look straight into the camera and say

'Dianne you ignorant slut!'

Maybe find a way to incorporate how the gun equalized (wo)men in the LS statement?

It may be an entire commercial unto itself, but picture Viking Raiders raping and pillaging a medieval village (folks may think it is a new Capital One commercial). Cut to a terrifying Viking raider kicking in the door of a medieval cottage. Cut to a modern day female in a defensive position in her home, armed with a firearm and ready to defend herself from the timeless act of rape and pillage.

I'm thinking something aspirational and empowering during these increasingly troubled times. It seems incredibly trite now, but I always remember back to how affecting The Bear was in its day.

I'd also love to see something incorporating bolt-action, lever-action and semi-auto, showing the shot prior to showing the shooter and the rifle... so the viewer didn't know and wasn't able to tell whether the unobjectionable bolt-action, the American icon lever or the SCARY semi-auto was taking the shot.
 
I would change to "good people with rifles ... " and represent minority/ethnic diversity to broaden the appeal to as many people as possible and let's not forget the AARP ... my uncles/inlaws still hunt and actively shoot after retirement.

And just before the fade-to-black, flash a slow zooming-in images of "We The People" and "Right to keep and bear arm ..." portions of the US Constitution/Bill of Rights.

As to the background sound track, how about starting with a barely audible drum tapping and gradual infusion of the national anthem/Star-Spangled Banner that gradually increases in volume with the "... land of the free and the home of the brave" coinciding with the showing of the "We the People ... Right to keep and bear arm" to provide a positive patriotic anchoring to the NRA message. ;)
 
I suggest you pitch it to NRA, CmdrSlander.
There are probably good video makers where you live. There are many around where i live.
Might be worth doing on your own and submitting.
 
I am curious as to the officer with an AR. Many folks are equating the LEO to have fully automatic AR's etc. Not too sure how it will be perceived.

I love the idea BTW, great work.
