I found out today that the indoor range I frequent (RMSS) will no longer allows rifles to be fired at their facility. Per the staff I spoke with, costly repairs to the range were what ultimately pushed them this direction. My question - does anyone know of or have recommendations for other ranges allowing rifles here in Northern Colorado?

There is an outdoor range north of Ft Collins, one near Nunn, and one east of Ault. There is an indoor range in Loveland that allows rifles with no steel core ammo but it is only 25 yds and requires a membership and background check. There is an indoor on Mulberry in Ft Collins near I-25 but I think it may be pistol only but it is open to the public. I think there is a shop east of Greeley with an indoor range also. When the weather gets warmer there is always the Pawnee National Grasslands as long as you clean up when you are done shooting.

Not sure exactly where you are in the north but you can always visit Pawnee Grasslands.

It's not a range per say but there's lots of open spaces (though one area off an access road tends to be the most popular from my experience) and you tend to meet interesting people.

I have found that the grasslands is do crowded that it is almost unsafe. There seems to be only the one spot. Has the us forest service, or who ever manages the land, opened up more areas or or they slowly closing it down like everywhere else?

There is certainly more than one area in Pawnee. I live in fort collins and I frequent an area in Pawnee where I rarely see more than 1 other group of people in a given day. Its west of the "main area" by about 2-3 miles.

If the only area I could shoot at was the "main area" where all the idiots congregate (not saying everyone's an idiot, but I've seen more than a few who were) I would never shoot at Pawnee (save sunrise on weekdays when no one is there). Last time I was out there, two groups parked 20 feet to either side of me and started shooting. I couldn't even retrieve my targets when i had to leave. I saw some giant plumes of dust from tannerite on my way out. Idiots.

I have largely abandoned the pawnee thanks to idiots. I now shoot at Great Guns in Pierce, and I enjoy it there. Three rifle ranges (1, 2 and 300 yard ranges), two pistol ranges and an "action" range, plus skeet, trap and sporting clays. I pay 15 bucks a month and I think it was 75 bucks to start.

sent from my Galaxy Note II.

Are there really any areas with a 1 hour drive from the Metro area that you con shoot on public land? We all know about the Pawnee grasslands but that is well know and crowded. I am not opposed to paying to shoot but its almost like a double hit for ammo. I have to pay to get it and then again to shoot it. If we cannot shoot on public land , the only other option is a range membership. What ranges have openings and where are they located? In my experience most ranges have limitations on the number of members and have a waiting list. I don't want to wait. I would like to walk on to the range no hassle no bs and shoot. Does anyone know of a good range that doesnt hit the wallet hard and actually has openings?
