Not a bad price on either one. Depends on what you are going to do with it as to which one to get. Carry, truck. collect, nightstand etc. Then decide.

Four incher is hard to beat for practical.

That is a bargain price for a like new 6".
That said, the 4" are the more popular size.
It isn't necessarily p & r, as there was a transitional period
for the -1, when some guns were one or the other, or both.

you need to verify the condition of: bore..lock up..timing.. forcing cone .. area above forcing cone (flame cutting) .. extractor rod .. firing pin ...Any rust and/or pitting on the frame, cylinder, bore, under the grips?... Any frame damage?......on both revolvers.

if you plan on concealing, it works with the 4"

I had a similar delema between a 4" 66 (no dash) and a 4" 66-1. I wasn't able to decide, so I bought them both.

If primarily for range use, I would get the 6" which can also be used for self defense. I shoot my 6" Smiths more than my 4" ones. I just prefer the way they feel.

I have a benign tremor that keeps me shooting short barrels, but both the models you mention sound good to me. On guns from that era, you really do need to check the specs, though. Many were sold with sloppy lockups and B/C gaps; you shoud also insert an empty case and check out the space between the case and gun frame. Should be no greater than .009". I had several that were .013" and S&W repaired all but one ( which they screwed up). Anyway, if I were ye, I'd buy both the guns in a heartbeat.

Great guns both, and the 6-inch is an outstanding hunting gun.

But 6" should give you YEARS of solid shooting.

Either one would serve you well. I personally have a preference for the overall practical/utility nature of a 4" .357 revolver. Since that one is no longer available let us know how things go with the 6" model, which by the way has a very nice price on it too.
