I took my new 610 out to the range today (along with my Javelina which is in another thread) and ran some rounds through it. I didn't shoot it a whole lot as I didn't have any moonclips with me and knowing that it would fire - it is a revolver - I wanted to run the Javelina a bit.

The 610 functioned perfectly despite having no moonclips. Total number of rounds fired was somewhere around 24. I had a new revolver shooter out with me and he managed to shoot out the center of the target with only 4 rounds. The remaining 2 went through the gaping hole in the center of the target. I managed to do about the same although I was unable to save the target to post here (he got carried away and trashed my targets).

The action on this 610 is one of the best I have ever seen. Double action shots were easy to pull off and the trigger pull is barely perceptible in single action. Recoil was very mild which I attributed to the heavy weight of the gun combined with factory ammo. Further testing and posting will be done with full-power reloads as soon as I am able to find some powder.

For those of you that are thinking about the 610, buy one when you can find it!

You are one lucky fella to have a 610! I would love to get my grubby mitts one one of those bad boys!

I have a 610 as well. My gun is part of the run that S&W did in 2008. They take them in and out of production every couple years. Mine has a fluted cylinder, the front of which is beveled for faster holster draw. They really are nice guns though I wish mine had a lighter trigger pull.

Action that's a -3 isn't it? I have one as well but with this "new" -1 I don't see a need for the -3 anymore. They are truly nice guns though. I found that nickel brass is a sure way to jam them.

You are correct sir. My gun is indeed a -3. You've had problems with nickel plated brass? Hmm. I've never had any issues with it. In fact, the first and only box of ammunition that I ever bought for my 610 was nickel plated and I fired that off and reloaded it several times before I got any other 10mm brass. One thing that surprised me about the 610 is just how accurate 40 S&W is when fired from it.

My -3s chambers are too tight even after a trip to S&W so I just stick with brass. I haven't tried with the -1 yet but I have a huge pile of 10mm brass now so there's no point.

Sweet. My pair of 10's includes a 6 1/2" 610-2 (non-fluted) and a 1006 w/ adjustable sights. I love shooting the 610, even though I still haven't taken the time to find the "perfect" load. Shortly after I bought it I took it to the monthly silhouette shoots and it earned the (unfortunate) nickname of "The Excavator" - there was no mistaking where it hit when it wasn't on steel... Most everyone else was shooting some variety of a T/C Contender, I had the only wheelgun that I can recall. Easily manageable recoil with that big honkin' N frame, and the only brass issues I've had so far were due to a bum seating die that wasn't keeping the lead 180gr TCs square to the case.

I have yet to shoot the 1006 - I used up all my 10mm loads in the 610 awhile back and haven't had reloading time for way too long.

Good luck to anyone in finding either for a reasonable price anymore - the 610 ran me almost $500 thirteen years ago, hitting over $1,000 regularly on GB now I believe. I (somewhat) recently lucked into the 1006 at a local Pawn/Gun shop, also $500 - they didn't realize what they had at the time. Another one (fixed sights) there now is tagged over $200 more, and been there a little while...
