I like JG, and I appreciate their gesture. That said, I have to agree with others here that, while commendable, I don't think any of these companies adopting such policy are actually sacrificing.
If someone can show me that any of these companies actually did a decent amount of NY LEA sales, then I really applaud them for putting principles before profit. Barring that, it really does amount to a PR move.
Let me lend an example I gave in another thread:
I run an automotive repair shop. Suppose the US government passed a law that all cars sold to the public must be governed at 79 MPH, but police and government vehicles are exempt.
I can stand up and say "I refuse to sell parts to or service the vehicles of any government agency!". Everyone cheers, I've taken a noble stand, hooray for me. But I don't work on LE and government vehicles to begin with, so this stance can only help me by increasing my customer base.
But the shop 12 miles east of me has long worked on county vehicles, sheriff's vehicles and the local police vehicles; Those accounts comprise a significant portion of their revenue. If they take the same stance, it will be a serious economic loss to their business. They may have to let people go, even close their doors.
So, if JG sales and these others are the shop East of me, then Bravo! But if they're
my shop, well, it's pretty much just a stunt, and in
their best interest to capitalize on the current political situation.
If we can get
ALL the arms and ammo manufacturers to take this stance, then we might just accomplish something. But I will say confidently that it is not going to happen. Companies like Colt have always made Govt/LE sales a priority, pretty much consider us pee-ons. Same for HK. I find it interesting that Armalite, who has actually
refused sales to LEAs, is catching so much flack, yet Colt, HK, Glock and others who have said
nothing are given a pass.....
