I have been fighting this fight for longer than any so-called millenials have been alive. Stopping gun control is easy. Any chance you have to vote a Democrat out of office, do it.

That is, quite literally, all it takes.

If you cannot tell which party hates guns, gun rights and gun owners then you simply do not pay enough attention to matter.

Dems wrote and passed the 1994 AWB. Dems have written and passed all draconian state bans since. Dems have introduced all pending draconian bills.

You can name anti Republicans. You can also name people who smoke cigarettes for 60 years without developing lung cancer.

If you cannot see and admit political truth, you are not on the side of gun rights.

Sir, to late...The loudest protestations surrounding the "so-called panic buying" price hikes are almost certainly being generated by the very same gun-owning young people that voted for Obama twice!

You can literally feel their entitlement mindedness, its palpable.

BK, do this for me. Research who appointed all the federal judges who ruled that way. I do not know right now who appointed them. But I would guess they were appointed by Democrats.

Which goes back to my point.

Ragnar, my only access is a cheap phone. Hard enough to type with one finger right now on tiny screen.

Looks like the ruling in the article referenced by BK could be supportive of open carry.

Poking with one finger at tiny screen, it does, indeed appear ruling may be favorable to open carry. How could a fee-based, permit-based system be constitutional as connected to a right guaranteed by Bill of Rights?

I'd rather research a politicians stance on the issues and make an informed decision after that. It does take a little more time and thought though....:uhoh:

Republican controlled NY Senate just past the worst gun grabbing bill in history. Voting Republican did not help.
Party means NOTHING! How they vote on these bills is everything. I'd vote for Harry Reid before any of the gun grabbing Republican's from NY. To hell with partisanship. I vote for candidates, not party.

If you can meet my challenge I will issue a mea culpa.

Find one example, since 1994, of law banning any type of gun or magazine that was written by Repubs, sponsored or co-sponsored by majority of Repubs, or passed by legislative body that was majority Repubs.

One thing that the NRA does, that I agree with, is to reward or punish politicians based on their stands on gun issues, not on their party affiliation. In this party-polarized climate, you have to hedge your bets.

Not always, we have had our share on SCOTUS who were "supposed" to be conservative who turned out quite different than that. Same at the Fed level as well. you can't always assume that they were Dem appointees.

At the behest of...?
when did Romney sign his awb?
At the behest of...?

You can't just ignore the political climate surrounding those situations. If the republicans in those solidly blue areas did nothing but remain intransigent (but principled) they would be sidelined and made irrelevant. You have to compromise if you're in the deal making business. That's why politics is so slimy. Democrats do the same thing by acting as pro-rights Fudds; except where they control the terms of discussion.

Now that I agree with--if only their grades were more indicative of a politian's likelihood to go along with anti legislation (quite a few A's were supporting everything from AWBs to BGCs last I read up on it)

we have had our share on SCOTUS who were "supposed" to be conservative who turned out quite different than that
IIRC, people with the background of those who aspire to be SCJs tend to be fairly liberal, politically; Ivy League educations, public service, etc. It's more the fault of republicans for drawing their SCOTUS candidates from a "poisoned well" so to speak, that these guys prove unprinicipled *cough* --Roberts-- *cough*. Not many Democrat appointees turning the tables, are there?

Hrmmmmm. when did Romney sign his awb?

I know Derek is being rhetorical here, but for everyone doesn't know and isn't inclined to look it up, Governor Romney's term was 2003-2007.

Keeping that in mind, I'd like to address the OP:

Dems have written and passed all draconian state bans since.

I'm not from the commonwealth of MA. But most state governments with which I'm familiar require a signature by the state executive in order to pass any laws. Given that Mitt Romney was such an executive, was at that time a Republican, and did sign into law one such draconian ban, your statement is factually incorrect, as is your topline "simple solution."

Generally when I vote, I look at the NRA and GOA scorecards. In absence of that or other information, I vote Republican for this very reason. The fact is recent history has proven to us that the Democrats are much more likely to implement gun control.

The millenials who voted for Obama twice include my 65 yo gun owning (CCW carrying) father! If that doesn't break out some mold! The reality is that as long as people think they can do what they want to do and the gov will pay for it (I am ashamed to say my dad is one of them) they'll keep voting in these guys.
What grinds me is that the Rep aren't that much better (as noted above)! Argh!!!
Gun rights aren't the only rights being trampled on; so is the right to be responsible: the def of a man (or a woman) is that he is both willing and able to take responsibility for himself and those for whom he is responsible. Our gov is telling us: don't worry, we'll take responsibility for you' and this generation (meaning the voting populace today) are buying it hook, line, and sinker!

When was 1986?

What was the Mulford Act?

What was the Omnibus Crime Control and Safe Streets Act?

Who drafted the Uniform Firearms Act and what organization sponsored it?

You better put your phone down and learn a little about the history of gun control laws in this country.

While it's generally true Democrats are introducing most all of the new anti-gun legislation and I have a tendency to think the vast majority of Democrats are anti-gun (it's in their bloody platform), this does not blind me to Republicans like Chris Cristie (who is basically a Democrat), so we need to be careful who we vote for.

In general antigun candidate tend to be creepy control freaks. These politicians really are socialists of the type that have lead us to most of the big mess this country is in, but people have a tendency to get disinterested when that is pointed out.

joeschmoe, who wrote that bill? Who introduced that bill?
I know who voted for it. I know who controlled that house and could have killed it. I know that voting the republican ticket gave them the power they needed to pass it. I know that if NY's vote for those same republicans they deserve to be unarmed peasants.

If you cannot see and admit political truth, you are not on the side of gun rights

Agreed. Party means NOTHING! NY's Republican Senate proves that. Admit that is the political truth, or you are not on the side of gun rights, only a party hack. I will fight every Republican or Democrat who votes for these bills. No difference, no quarter given.

Blind partisanship is a ruse to keep the same gun grabbers in power. They must all be replaced. With new parties if needed.
