So, the wife is getting some work done around the eyes that will cost around $800.

Of course, I'm going to use this event to gain some leverage and buy a new handgun. :neener:

Help me pick a great handgun (NEW) for $800 - $1,200.

I'm leaning towards something I'd never normally buy. I am a Glock guy, but I don't want to buy a Glock.

I'm thinking of getting something with a little bling to it...

Depends on what you like. If I had to spend 8-12, I would look for a slightly used Colt revolver, something in .357 or .44, but that's me.

You can pick up a beautiful, stainless, Ruger SR1911 CMD ...
Well within your price range.

Check out Sig Sauer

Check out Sig Sauer, if you like the feel of a Glock, you will probably like the feel of a Sig also.

Last year I was trying to decide between the Sig P250SC and the Clock G26 Gen4 both are real nice handguns and about the same size and price once you purchase the extra Sig magazines. Once I was finally able to find a shop that had both in stock for me to physically compare, I found that the Sig seemed to fit my hand better so I chose it but wouldn't hesitate to own the G26.

Whatever you finally choose, I am sure you will enjoy it.

If you really want to blow $800, buy one and a half shares of Apple Computer.

Barring that, I'd look at the S&W 625. That's about as far from a Glock as you can get and they sure are purdy.

A Springfield .40 EMP.

You'll have the prettiest girl at the dance, and still be with the one who can get it done.

If you're not long on beauty, or like that "tough love" look, check out a Sprinfield XDs if you can find one.

I have both and wouldn't give up either one.

CZ Sp-01 Shadow.

Well I had a suggestion but I changed my mind. Get the Equinox, it's purdy.

I picked up a great used Colt Officers on Gunbroker for $715 delivered.

Add a couple hundred in Wilson or EGW goodies and you have a piece that you will never lose money on. I put an EGW full guide rod with a flat wound spring, a squared off firing pin stop (Midway), a 24# mainspring, a Wilson bullet proof extractor, an EGW steel mainspring housing, an EGW barrel bushing that I took an evening to hand sand and fit plus a pair of coco bolo grips. I have a trigger from Wilson that I have not installed yet.

You may want to set aside a hunsky for a bar b que holster so you can show it off. I have not picked up one of those yet. But I do have my Colt tricked out and working very reliably.

Quite honestly I know there are people who think 1911's are the end all. I think they are a 1911 design that is just plain cool. Mine lives in the safe and plays at the range.

My go to is a Glock. Let us know what you do!

There are numerous guns that could fit your need. Do you have any preferences about caliber and/or revolver versus semi auto?

I second the Sig.
I have a 2022, and I would dearly love to own one of the upper end models. I have fired a couple mags through a friends P220 and absolutely loved it.

get the colt government talo 9mm.

Hey, if I'm gonna help you spend your money, we're gonna do it right...
But it's a sweet pistol, and something different, too.

Get a Springfield Lightweight Operator.. I think that might just be my next purchase:p. I gave in and got 2 Ar's finally:D, so I don't need any more evil black assasult rifles.
